My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

What my friends at ACC say about me:

I love to be loved, but on my own terms! Let's brush up on some canine body language together!

I'm ready to learn! I need a patient person who has the time to work on training with me.

I would do best in a home with only adult humans.

A volunteer writes: Lake is a stunner, garnering compliments from strangers on her walks at the care center - it's hard to look away from her beautiful tricolor markings and adorably chunky frame. But Lake doesn't just rely on her looks to get by: She's a social and affectionate pup, and when I approach her kennel she's typically quietly waiting, with wiggles in tow, for her turn to go outside. Outside, she's an energetic girl with a palpable zest for life, and checks in periodically on walks. She was briefly adopted before being returned to the shelter in October, and is recommended to an adult-only home (no children under 13) and an experienced (level 4) adopter willing to work with her on managing some anxious behaviors.

Lake was found tied up at a train station in Manhattan in September, along with another dog, Pond (#236870), and the two can be adopted separately. When introduced to a novel male dog while off-leash at the care center, Lake approached the gate with a neutral body, sniffing the male dog through the gate and immediately walked away, maintaining distance from the gate for the remainder of the interaction.
