My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Bartholomew!

Bartholomew came to ACC as a stray after being found tied to a fence. Despite the uncertainty of his past, he's shown a lot of good in care-soft-bodied, treat-motivated, and able to sit for cues and take snacks gently. He enjoys sniffy walks and has been described as walking well on a harness once he's set up for success.

My Ideal Home

Bartholomew is looking for an experienced, adult-only home that can keep things predictable and set clear, kind boundaries. He'll do best with someone who uses force-free, reward-based training and is comfortable managing big-dog energy on leash. A front-clip harness and structured decompression (slow introductions, calm routines, and enrichment like food puzzles/long-lasting chews) will help him settle and thrive.

Good with Kids?

No children under 13. Bartholomew is recommended for an adult-only home due to guarding behaviors and because he'll benefit from a calm, controlled environment.

Good with Other Pets?

History unknown. In care he's shown interest in other dogs and can pull hard and become tense when he sees them, especially when he can't greet. He'd do best with careful management around other dogs, and no dog parks. If introducing to another dog, slow, structured introductions are a must.

Leash Manners

Bartholomew can pull hard-especially around other dogs-but improves on a harness and can walk with mild to moderate pulling when properly equipped. He likes to stop and sniff (and has been known to mark), and he'll sit for treats and take them gently.

Overall Health

Healthy overall. He arrived underweight with dermatitis/itchy skin, and he's been treated while in care.

Behavior Determination

Level 3 - Bartholomew has shown resource guarding (becoming tense and growly around a toy) and some handling sensitivity (growled during vaccines/microchip but did not escalate). He'll do best with an experienced adopter who can manage guarding safely and continue confidence-building with positive reinforcement.

Other Fun Facts

Bartholomew knows "sit" and can offer both paws! He's a big guy with a lot going for him-sniffy walks, gentle treat-taking, and that classic "I'm figuring this out" shelter-to-home potential-ready for someone who understands him and can help him feel secure.
