My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! My name is SAEROI and here is some info about me:

PHYSICAL INFO:

  • Breed: Jindo mix

  • Age: approx. 2 years

  • Gender: Female

  • Weight: 22 lbs

  • Height: 48 cm (paws to top of my head)

  • Length: 53 cm (head to butt)

  • Current Location: S. KOREA

RESCUE STORY – Me and my two puppies were captured in Cheorwon, Gangwon Province, and brought to a local shelter. During my time at that shelter, I cared for and raised my puppies as a devoted mother. When my puppies reached approximately three months of age, we were all placed on an imminent euthanasia schedule. Thankfully, a kind shelter officer who was concerned about our safety reached out to request rescue assistance. DoReMi Rescue stepped in and rescued me and my puppies! Despite the difficult circumstances, my rescuers say I remained calm and attentive
while caring for my puppies. We are now in DoReMi's loving care while awaiting forever homes in the Pacific Northwest.

When I was first rescued, I was very fearful of people and tended to carefully observe unfamiliar environments and humans from a distance. After being exposed to a more stable shelter environment and foster care through DoReMi, I gradually began to feel more comfortable with humans. With patient, unforced care, I slowly started to open my heart and accept relationships with people.

TEMPERAMENT – I'm a "slow burn" kinda gal. When I first moved into my foster home, I spent about one week staying under a desk, quietly observing the new environment and the people around me. Over time, I began engaging with people at my own pace and showed steady, positive progress. I think I'll likely have a similar adjustment in my forever home- so I'm looking for kind, gentle, patient adopters who are willing to go at my pace as I get comfy.

Once comfortable in my environment, I am a calm, gentle, and emotionally stable dog. I have a medium/low energy level and prefer to observe situations before responding, which makes me very predictable and easy to live with in daily life. I enjoy human companionship but do not rush up for attention. Once trust is established, I express affection in a quiet and steady way and continue to build deep, reliable bonds. I am a pretty quiet girl who rarely barks!

True to my Jindo-roots, I will likely bond hard and fast with one person and may take a bit longer to warm up to others. I am comfortable and relaxed around women, a bit cautious around men (but get more comfortable with time) and timid around strangers. When people go at my pace, I adjust with time and show my true sweet side.

Here's what my rescuer had to say about me:

Saeroi is not a dog who rushes into relationships, but for those willing to give her time, she offers deep trust, emotional stability, and quiet companionship. Her calm temperament, low reactivity, positive relationships with people, dogs, and cats, and her reliable recall after settling in make her an excellent fit for home life. For a family seeking a balanced, gentle, and steady companion, Saeroi is a dog who will reward patience with a lasting bond.

ENERGY LEVEL – Medium/Low. I'm a young, Jindo mix with a pretty balanced energy level - I will need daily walks and mental exercise, but after that I will be content to snooze and relax!

GETS ALONG WITH:

  • Kids – Unknown. I haven't had the opportunity to meet any kiddos yet.

  • Dogs – Yes! I get along with other dogs; playing gently or coexisting calmly. I'm not a huge player, but I'm quite neutral around other dogs. I eat calmly around other dogs without showing any resource guarding behaviours.

  • Cats – I have seen a few cats and show little-to-no reaction around them. No video of the ineractions yet, but one can be requested if my adopter has a cat in their home.

PREY DRIVE - Unknown. I’m not too sure how I’ll react around squirrels/rabbits etc., so my adopter needs to be prepared and willing to train me through these behaviours, should they arise.

TRAINING:

  • Leash skills – I’m pretty good on a leash and walk nicely without pulling (check out my video!). I am pretty calm on leash but am slightly cautious in unfamiliar environments (so I may be hesitant to walk in those settings).

  • House trained – I am pretty good at doing my business outside! A regression period may be expected (and is normal) once I go to my forever home, but with frequent potty breaks and positive reinforcement I'm sure I'll re-learn my housetraining habits quickly!

  • Crate trained - Yup! I see my crate as my "safe space".

  • Recall - once I've bonded with my human(s), I respond well to my name when called

Please Note: WCP highly encourages adopters to do some research and training on their own before their dog arrives.

HEALTH NOTES:

  • I am spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. I will come to Canada with proof of all my vaccines and test records.

  • I will be tested for Heartworm etc. before flying to Canada.

  • I will have dental cleaning, if necessary, before flying to Canada.

    • NOTE: It is not uncommon for rescue dogs to require dental work after they are adopted. West Coast Paws does not cover the costs of dental work and/or vet visits. These costs are the financial responsibility of the adopter.

ADOPTION FEE:

  • My adoption fee is $840.00 CAD ($750.00 + GST & PST) including applicable taxes, which includes my airfare, if a flight volunteer is found directly to Vancouver.
