My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

What my friends at ACC say about me:

My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet!

I don't always like to share my food, toys or bedding with other animals.

I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe.

I'm ready to learn! I need a patient person who has the time to work on training with me.

I love to be loved, but on my own terms! Let's brush up on some canine body language together!

I would do best in a home with only adult humans.

A volunteer writes: With an almost cartoon-like animated face, one look into Maggie May's saucer-like big brown eyes and you're likely to fall in love instantly. Being in her presence is, in a word, delightful: She's eager to connect with you and curious about the world around her. Though she was a bit fearful when entering the shelter, you can already see bits of her fun personality starting to shine through.

Maggie May was spotted running down the Belt Parkway. When someone saw her and opened their car door to bring her to safety, she jumped right in. At the shelter she's been social and friendly with staff and volunteers. When introduced to a male dog while off leash at the care center. Maggie May approached the gate with a loose, wiggly body, offering play bows. She was guided into the male dog's pen on leash to meet face-to-face, and as the male dog approached Maggie, she created distance, appearing nervous. She maintained her distance while displacing, sniffing the pen opposite of the direction in which the male was in.

We don't know much about Maggie May's past, but with her underweight frame, cropped ears and tail, we suspect she may not have had the kindest start to life. We hope her luck changes from here on out. She is best suited for a home without children under 13.
