My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Please contact Lowell Nelson (lowelln@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.is not mammoth! is nicely trim 60 lbs!

MAMMOTH NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!

Name: Mammoth       Best Guess for Breed:    Lab mix

Best Guess for Age:  2 years as of October 2025     Gender: Male

Approximate Weight:  64 lbs

Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen him with cats, but are happy to discuss integration techniques with adopters! He should not go to a home with young kids---he prefers a quieter household.

Currently Living At: DC area foster home

Mammoth is Looking For: His forever home! Through no fault of his own, this sweetie landed in the shelter. He's eager to once again have his own humans for long sniffy walks, romps in parks, and all the adventures they can dream up - gotta burn off all that awesome young-dog energy! He'd love to make pup and people pals along the way. Quality kibble, cushy dog bed, chew dog toys - yes, please, to all those.

But above all he wants to be safe and loved, to know where he belongs - and upon whom to bestow all those happy tail wags, to whom to pledge loyal companionship. Is that going to be you? Is he the one you see by your side?

What My Foster Says About Me: Mammoth is so wonderful! Very typical chocolate lab who’s super sweet and also a goofball. He gets along with everybody--other dogs and people. He loves to be in the same room with you, and when he's not napping, he'll play with a ball, rope toy, or chew toy. He's great on the leash and at the dog park and loves going for long walks. He's also doing so well with potty training and crate training, and he sleeps great in the crate at night!

Medical: Mammoth was heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs.  All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months. Mammoth tested negative at 6 months - he is heartworm-free!

Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.

TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog

Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. That said, we cannot make any guarantees about age, breed or temperament.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The adoption process begins when you submit an adoption application either online or at an adoption event. The individual responsible for the dog you are interested in adopting - a position we call the “adoption coordinator” - will then set up a time to discuss your application over the telephone. The adoption coordinator will check your vet reference to make sure all current and past pets were kept up-to-date with their shots and medical care. The adoption coordinator will also set up a home visit with one of our trained volunteers. That individual will come to your home to ensure that it is a safe environment, to confirm that everyone in the home is on board with adopting a dog, and to discuss any other questions you may have about dog adoption!

Go meet their pets

Our adoption events are held each weekend. A schedule of times and locations can be found at www.luckydoganimalrescue.org.
