Meet Hawk (ACCT-A-238301)! This handsome fella is a medium-sized mixed breed with a beautiful white coat. Hawk is a friendly, treat-motivated guy who's eager to please. He was found as a stray and is a little thin, but he's quickly learning that good food and love are always on the menu!
Hawk is an energetic boy who loves to play, especially with squeaky toys! In fact, you can even watch a video of him having a blast with one! (https://youtu.be/83nOQc2gWFo) He gets excited easily, and can sometimes get a little mouthy when overstimulated, but he's learning to redirect that energy with toys. He’s also learning leash manners and can pull a bit, but responds well to his handler and leash pressure. He’s so eager to say hello to everyone he meets!
Hawk is very smart and with some patient training, he'll be the best boy ever! If you're looking for a playful and affectionate companion, Hawk might just be the perfect match for you. Meet him at ACCT Philly any day from 10am-6pm!
Additional Notes:
Per Volunteer 12/7/25: He was wiggly and loose when I approached his kennel and then started jumping up on the door when I went to leash him. I was able to leash him with a small loop so that his paws didn’t get caught. In the play yard he went straight for the squeaky toys again and loves to chew on them and romp around with them in his mouth. He still allowed me to pick up any toys right from under him and didn’t have any guarding with toys. He was still pretty snatching with treats however nowhere near as overstimulated as on Friday and he completely disengaged once he ate the treat and I didn’t have anything left. At one point jumped up on my fanny pack and started to chew on it because a little pack of treats was sticking out. I turned away from him and he lost interest and went and grabbed a toy. Still going to keep him experienced blue as he can get mouthy and overstimulated however, he is very sweet and playful And body language is always very loose. Did amazing at the photoshoot and allowed us to put a headband on him. Easily goes back in kennel
Behavior Eval 12/05/2025:
Kennel Presentation: When I approached his kennel, he started to jump up on the door with a wiggly body. It took a few tries to leash because he was jumping, so I had to make sure his paws didn’t get caught.
Leash Skills: He pulls moderately, however, is pretty in tune with his handler and leash pressure. Wanted to stop and say hi to everyone on the way out of the shelter!
Sociability: When I picked up his poop, he jumped up playfully to grab the poop bag. When I took treats out, he got quite mouthy and was trying to jump up and grab them from me. He snatched onto my coat jacket for a second and then I took some treats and threw them and he ran after them and calmed down. He is very treat motivated and is very emaciated so not surprised that he is very eager for food. The toy really helps for his overstimulation and when he got mouthy, I told him off and he would go get his toy instead.
Play: In the play yard he went straight for the squeaky toy and played with it on his own for several minutes. Allowed me to approach him while he was playing with the toy and reached for it and he was very loose and comfortable.
Dog Interaction: None today
Return to Kennel: No issues returning to kennel
Color Level: For color level, Giving him experienced Blue just so that handlers can manage his mouthing. No aggression noted, it seemed to be overstimulation.
11/30/25 1:51 pm. Friendly but pulls off n a leash.
