Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Smokey — A Senior Sweetheart With a Fluffy Curly Coat & a Whole Lot of Heart ❤️
Smokey is an 11-year-old neutered male Chihuahua mix with the softest, fluffiest, curly coat you’ll ever run your fingers through. This gentle senior spent his whole life in a home with many other dogs, and when everything suddenly changed, he found himself scared, confused, and alone.
He was tossed into a kennel, evaluated by strangers, and completely abandoned by the only world he knew. Terrified and feeling trapped, Smokey did what frightened dogs often do—he barked, cowered, trembled, and backed away, hoping the unfamiliar people would leave his “room” so he could feel safe. In his panic, he delivered a superficial bite, a fear-based reaction to being overwhelmed and cornered.
Because of this, others passed him by.
But Chihuahua Rescue Truckee Meadows did not.
We stepped in and brought Smokey—and his extended family—into safety.
Now, surrounded by patience, predictability, and kindness, Smokey is blossoming. He enjoys gentle pets, leans into human affection, and is slowly learning that he no longer needs to be afraid. This boy has so much love stored up in that fluffy little body—he just needed someone to give him a chance.
Smokey will thrive with an adopter who understands that trust takes time. Give him space, move at his pace, and you will watch this beautiful senior blossom into a loyal, joyful companion.
He is current on vaccinations and microchipped, and yes… Smokey really was his name! 🥰
If you’re looking for a dog who will reward your patience with deep, heartfelt love, Smokey may be your perfect match.
