My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Lion was brought in by his previous owner on November 19, 2025.

Why this pet is the one for you:
Meet Lion! This handsome monarch has sometimes been uncomfortable during certain types of handling. Picking up? Hard pass. Medical handling? He'll want to speak to his attorney. Lion has lived as an indoor/outdoor explorer and would likely thrive with safe outdoor access-think catio, sunbeams, and surveying his kingdom from a lofty perch. He doesn't love confinement, so crate training and a Fear Free vet can help keep his royal stress levels low. This regal fellow needs an adult-only home (or children 12yrs or older) with adopters who understand consent checks, body-language reading, and giving him the freedom to approach (or retreat) as he pleases. A consultation with our trainer-attended by all household members-will help set everyone up for success. With his trusted inner circle, Lion can be affectionate, charming, and an excellent sunbathing companion. Just remember: in this kingdom, affection is by royal appointment only. If you're ready to respect his boundaries and provide a throne in a sunny spot, Lion just might choose you as his loyal subject. Don't forget to bring an extra-large top-loading cat carrier for a safe ride home!

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
