My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How Barqs arrived:
Barqs was brought in by a community member on December 1, 2025.

Why Barqs is the one for you:
Meet Barqs! Barqs is a total lovebug with a calm, gentle vibe and a big, snuggly heart! This sweet American Bully is all about soft eyes, warm lean-ins, and being your built-in cuddle buddy. He adores meeting new people and is quick to rest his chin on your leg or lean in for some affection - he's the kind of dog who makes you feel special the moment you meet him. He's wonderfully patient and happy to take things at a relaxed pace. Barqs enjoys treats, loves a little exploring, and has a mellow, go-with-the-flow way of moving through the world. He's a social sweetheart who comes back for more pets as soon as he's done with whatever he's doing. Barqs does have moderate dental disease and will need a dental cleaning in the near future so he can keep showing off that beautiful smile. If you're looking for a gentle, affectionate companion who will brighten your days with steady, sweet companionship, Barqs is your guy. Don't forget to bring a leash and collar if you come to meet him!

At SDHS:
Barqs has been vaccinated, microchipped, and neutered. Barqs is now ready for his new home!

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
