My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You know that “Happy Dog” song? The one that goes, "just a look at a happy, oh, the happy dog, but just a happy, happy, happy dog?" That is Shelly Seashell’s official theme song. If you’ve never heard it—stop everything and go listen. It’s her in dog form: pure joy, big energy, and tail-wagging happiness.

But Shelly isn’t just a happy girl. She's the best kind of dog—affectionate, goofy, smart, dog- and kid-friendly, and a fan favorite here at the rescue. She’s the kind of dog that turns a bad day into a great one just by existing.

We recently took Shelly to the park, and she absolutely rocked it. She walked beautifully around people, kids, and even barking dogs—totally unbothered and all smiles. She explored the playscapes with confidence, stayed connected with her handler the entire time, and was totally dialed in: sitting, staying, and checking in constantly. Whether we were climbing, walking, or just hanging out, she wanted to be near us and was the perfect combo of playful and attentive.
Afterward? Total snugglebug mode. Shelly curled up and melted into a 30-minute cuddle session, wanting to be as close as possible. She’s not all energy, all the time—this girl knows how to wind down and soak up love.

She’s also the type of dog who will snuggle up with you in a play yard full of playful pups—love is always her priority. Movie nights, couch naps, Sunday morning snuggles? Shelly says yes, please.

We believe Shelly is a 2.5 year-old German Shepherd/Lab mix, weighing about 53 lbs. She's full-grown, though as with all rescues, we can’t guarantee breed or age. What we can promise? A loving bestie full of tons of kisses.

Shelly’s spent time with a 1-year-old baby and did beautifully—totally unfazed by crawling, falling, crying, and noisy toys (yes, even the walker). At one point, she tried to lean on him for cuddles. She does get excited and wants to give allll the kisses, so she’s still learning about boundaries—but responds well to gentle redirection. She wants to love, and love hard!

With other dogs, Shelly is a total lovebug. She’s respectful, playful, and adapts well—whether your dog wants to wrestle and chase or just hang out. If another dog isn’t into playtime, Shelly will read the room and either find a new friend or come over to love on you instead. She’d thrive in a home with a playful dog buddy, but she’s also confident and happy as an only dog—as long as her people give her attention, exercise, and enrichment.

No Cats, Please! Shelly was a bit too interested in our house cat, Biggie, so a cat-free home would be best. Shelly is a dream walking on a gentle lead, whether solo or tandem. She’s been great in public, on shopping trips, and exploring parks. She rides well in the car, loves the wind in her face, and is surprisingly polite about all the lizards, squirrels, and birds she wants to chase. She's easy to redirect and loves focusing back on her people. In fact, check out her video and listen to her date-day humans gush about her personality (plus silly commentary on her critter dreams):

She’s crate-trained, potty-trained, treat-motivated, and eager to please—so any further training will be a blast for both of you.
Shelly loves her toys and is a fetch superstar. She’ll chase a ball or stuffed toy, bring it back, and drop it at your feet like a pro. Backyard fetch sessions? Yes. Midday zoomies? Also yes. Finding the perfect sunbathing spot? Triple yes.

We’d love to see Shelly in a home with a yard where she can run, relax, and be her bouncy, joyful self. A semi-active family that wants a best friend for adventures, playtime, and cuddle sessions would be her dream come true. We are always happy to test Shelly with whatever you need to make sure she’s the perfect fit. Let us know—we're here to help!
