My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Melanie, the breathtaking little merle angel with the world’s most precious heart-shaped marking around her eye — as if the universe just had to let everyone know she’s built out of pure love. Her blend of brown, black, and white patches makes her look like a work of art, and her adorable expressive ears and soft, soulful eyes seal the deal: she is impossible not to fall for. At just over 30 pounds, she’s the perfect “scoopable” size, and she has a way of melting right into your arms like she was always meant to be there.

Melanie is about 2 years old and is believed to be a Pit Bull/Cattle Dog mix — but honestly, whatever she is, the recipe was flawless. She’s brilliant, affectionate, playful, gentle, and truly one of the most perfect little souls to come through the rescue.

What makes Melanie so special? Everything.

She is unbelievably sweet with people. She walks right up for affection, asking politely for love with her soft eyes and gentle nudges. She snuggles like a champ, happily letting you carry her or cuddle her as if she’s known you forever. She reads people beautifully, seeks reassurance when she’s unsure, and blossoms even brighter when she knows she’s safe and loved. She’s affectionate without being demanding and sensitive without being timid — just a beautifully balanced little girl who wants to bond deeply with her humans.

With other dogs, Melanie is pure sunshine. She LOVES to play with friends who match her wonderful medium-energy vibe. She’ll romp, wrestle, zoom, and then gracefully bow out for a sniff break or a nap. When dogs get a bit too rowdy, her sweet, submissive little “roll onto my back and reboot” move comes out, and it’s adorable every time. She’s such a natural with other pups that she’s used as an assessment dog at the rescue — helping new, nervous arrivals feel safe and welcomed. That’s just who she is: gentle, patient, intuitive, warm-hearted.

As for human kids? Oh, Melanie LOVES them. She melts for them. She snuggles into them like they’re her tiny best friends. When she met a 4-year-old here, Melanie basically turned into a puddle of love — nudging closer, soaking up the cuddles, gazing up with the sweetest eyes like she had found her soulmate. She’s calm, gentle, and the perfect size for a family dog. Truly, she is a little angel in dog form.

She’s not a match for cats — she’s a bit too fascinated by them — but with people and other dogs? She is perfect. Completely, wonderfully perfect.

Melanie is adaptable too. Whether it’s a house with a yard or an apartment with regular walks, she fits right in. She adores adventures! She’s amazing in the car, curling up like a princess on her way to the park or the dog bakery. She’s polite, well-mannered, and so easy to take anywhere — flowers to sniff, treats to pick out, new admirers to charm. Every outing becomes a “Melanie fan club” meeting, because everyone who meets her falls instantly in love.

In her ideal home, she’d love a playful, easygoing dog buddy to match her vibe — someone who likes playtime but also appreciates a good nap afterward. But she could also thrive as the only dog as long as her people love her, engage with her, and give her all the affection she deserves. And she deserves all of it.

With her gorgeous merle coat, her heart-shaped marking, her expressive ears, her soft cuddly nature, and her incredible love for people, kids, and dogs alike, Melanie is simply extraordinary. She’s playful without chaos, affectionate without clinginess, gentle without fear, and loving in every possible way.

She is the full package — sweetness, beauty, intelligence, playfulness, and heart all rolled into one perfect little dog.

Melanie is ready to bring joy, love, and snuggles to her forever family.
Could that be you?

Because trust us… once you meet her, your heart won’t stand a chance. 💖🐾

At our 2 acre Texas based property, we assess every animal with trainers on staff, we modify behavior as needed, and create individualized behavior plans to help prepare dogs for their future families including crate training, potty training, leash walking, etc. Our fosters are able to attend group training and socialization play groups helping them stay confident, well rounded, and adoption-ready. Our on-site trainers are dedicated to each dog’s growth and we enjoy seeing their progress!

We go above and beyond to ensure every animal receives exceptional care. Veterinarians consistently praise our medical standards. From routine care to advanced treatments, each dog receives personalized attention. Hard costs for a healthy dog range from $804-$920; heartworm-positive dogs or those needing specialized care can exceed $2,000+. Adoption fees help cover a portion of these expenses, but without government funding, we rely on fundraising to bridge the gap—ranging from $100–$1,000+ per dog.

Our adoption fees reflect the extensive care and resources that go into each animal we save. The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet.
