My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet awesome Ollie! This sweet boy is full of personality and loves to spend time with his people. Ollie loves to dance and he will happily entertain you with his fancy moves. He has not been a huge talker here, but he does know some words and he will chat when he's in the mood for it. Typical of cockatoos, he can screech quite loudly when he is unhappy about something.

Ollie has been fairly good about eating a variety of foods here in shelter, and we are feeding him Harrison's pellets along with fresh foods, while slowly reducing his seed intake, as recommended by the vet.

Ollie is also a very busy boy who needs lots of enrichment. Toys, puzzles, things to destroy - cockatoos are intelligent animals that are hardwired to always be foraging for food, so it is important to keep them busy. He is unfortunately missing one of his feet, but he has adapted quite well to his disability. We have been careful about how his cage is set up, with lots of soft areas to stand to reduce the strain on his bad leg.

Ollie is 15 years old, and cockatoos can live upwards of 60+ years, so his new family will need to be prepared for that commitment.

We are looking for an experienced home that can give Ollie the life he needs and deserves. If you are interested in adopting Ollie, please fill out an application!

The BC SPCA is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for domestic, farm and wild animals in British Columbia. Through its locations and operations across the province the BC SPCA provides emergency medical care and sheltering for more than 37,000 animals each year. The society also conducts more than 4,600 cruelty investigations and provides a wide range of advocacy and education programs for domestic, farm and wild animals through its Provincial Office.

Our mission, vision and charter is at the heart of all we do to rescue, protect and care for animals. It is also the driving force behind our animal welfare and education programs.

    Our Charter:

The BC SPCA Charter is the foundation that guides the work we do:

    Whereas:

The world is inhabited by many species sharing a common ecosystem of air, earth, and water. We recognize and value our interconnectedness with all animals.

    Therefore:

The BC Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for the animals of the world we share.

We pledge our energies to inspire and mobilize society to create a world in which all animals, who depend on humans for their well-being, experience, as a minimum, five essential freedoms:

    1. Freedom from hunger and thirst

    2. Freedom from pain, injury, and disease

    3. Freedom from distress

    4. Freedom from discomfort

    5. Freedom to express behaviours that promote well-being.
