My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sweet Forrest is a gentle, soulful senior with a heart full of quiet love and gratitude.
At just 20 pounds, this sweet boy is the perfect size for cozy couches, warm laps, and staying close to his favorite people. Forrest has that soft, knowing gaze that only comes with age — the kind that instantly puts you at ease.

He’s incredibly sweet, affectionate without being demanding, and happiest simply being near you. Forrest enjoys leisurely strolls, peaceful moments, and long naps in a sunny spot. He doesn’t ask for much — just comfort, kindness, and someone who sees the beauty in a dog who has already learned how to love.

Senior dogs like Forrest are truly special. They come with patience, gratitude, and hearts that seem to love deeper because they understand how precious a home can be. Forrest isn’t looking for chaos or constant activity — he’s looking for a soft place to land and a human to call his own.

If you’ve ever considered opening your heart to a senior dog, Forrest may be the one who shows you just how meaningful that choice can be. He’s ready to spend his golden years offering gentle companionship, quiet loyalty, and unconditional love.

Apply online — or stop by the Humane Society Tuesday–Saturday from 10 AM–5 PM to meet Forrest. 🐾

More about this shelter

The Appalachian Highlands Humane Society is a private non-profit 501(c)3 charitable organization dedicated to the welfare of all animals. We do not receive public or government funding, and no monies from national humane organizations or county, state or federal government funds. Our work depends solely on grants, fundraisers, adoptions, private funding, memberships and donations. The fees collected from the adoption of each animal help to offset some of the costs involved in providing care for the animals and preparing an animal for placement into a new home. We value every animal equally and consider all to be priceless
Please visit our website, www.ahumanesociety.org for more information.
