My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Tsunami: A Loyal Little Chihuahua/Dachshund Mix Waiting for His Person

Hi… my name is Tsunami, and I’m a 4‑year‑old Chihuahua/Dachshund mix with a soft heart, a shy spirit, and a whole lot of hope that someone out there is looking for a dog just like me. My life hasn’t been simple, but I’m ready for my next chapter—and maybe that chapter begins with you.

I was picked up as a stray by animal control in Yuma. I don’t remember much about where I came from, and nobody ever came looking for me. After waiting, I was brought to Central Arizona Animal Rescue in mid‑November, and I’ve been here ever since. I’ve gone to several adoption events, but somehow, I’m still waiting for my forever home. I’m not giving up, though. I know the right person will see me and understand me.

A Little About Me

  • Timid with strangers, but gentle once I trust you
  • Best suited for adults or older children who understand shy dogs
  • Nervous around other dogs, even small ones
  • Classic Chihuahua personality—I bond deeply with one person
  • Brindle and black coat, which makes photos tough but looks beautiful in person
  • Okay being picked up and held once I know you’re safe

My Personality

I’m a quiet, thoughtful little guy. New people can feel overwhelming, and I need time to warm up. But once I choose you—once I know you’re my person—I love deeply and loyally. That’s the Chihuahua side of me. Chihuahuas are known for forming strong attachments to one special human. We’re devoted, protective, and happiest when we feel safe with our chosen person. I’m exactly that way.

I probably haven’t been around many dogs in my past, because even dogs my size make me nervous. I’m not aggressive—I just don’t know what to do. I’d be happiest as the only dog in the home, where I can relax and not worry about sharing space with other animals.

I don’t know how I feel about cats or young children, but because I’m timid, a calm, predictable home with adults or older kids would help me feel secure.

My Health & Care

I’m all ready for my new home.

  • I’m current on vaccinations
  • I’ve been neutered
  • I’m microchipped, so I’ll always have a way to find my way back home

My coat is a beautiful brindle and black mix—unique and striking in person, even if the camera doesn’t always capture it well.

What I’m Hoping For

I’m not looking for a busy household or a loud environment. I’m looking for someone patient, gentle, and understanding—someone who sees past my shyness and recognizes the loyal companion underneath. I want a home where I can feel safe, where I can curl up next to my person, and where I don’t have to compete for attention.

I imagine quiet evenings, soft voices, gentle hands, and the comfort of knowing I finally belong somewhere. I imagine being loved not for being outgoing or flashy, but for being me.

Maybe you’re imagining the same thing.

If you’d like to meet me, please e‑mail mike@caaronline.org to set up an appointment. I’ll be here at Central Arizona Animal Rescue, waiting with hope in my heart for the person who reads this and thinks, “He’s the one.”

PLEASE e-mail (do not call) mike@caaronline.org for more information and to set up an appointment to adopt. Do not e-mail us with a request to call you, if you have a question, please ask in the e-mail.
