My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

SHINE

Age: 2–3 years

Sex: Spayed Female

Breed: Mixed

Color: Light Brown

Weight: 6 kg

Height: 35 cm (at the shoulder)

Rescue Story

Shine was rescued from a shelter in Korea just before euthanasia.

She is now safe and ready for a real home where she can finally be loved and protected.

Personality with People

Shine is extremely affectionate and people-oriented.

She happily approaches both familiar and unfamiliar people, rubs against them, and enjoys being touched and held.

She is comfortable with both men and women and, although she hasn’t met young children under 13 yet, her gentle and social personality suggests she would likely do well with respectful kids.

She allows being picked up, even by strangers, and will often show her belly for rubs — a big sign of trust.

With Other Dogs

Shine greets new dogs politely but is not very interested in playing.

She prefers calm, gentle dogs and tends to feel overwhelmed by high-energy or pushy dogs.

She usually avoids conflict, even if another dog challenges her.

She may occasionally guard a toy or food from another dog by barking or chasing them away, but this does not escalate into fights and stops once she loses interest or is full.

She is happiest either as an only dog or with a calm, well-matched companion.

Cats

Her reaction to cats has not yet been tested, but testing can be arranged.

Energy Level & Home Life

Shine has a moderate energy level.

She enjoys outdoor activities and walks, but once she’s had exercise, she settles down nicely indoors.

She is agile and can jump onto tables if food is present, or follow people closely — she simply loves being near her humans.

When left alone, she stays calm and relaxed. In a kennel, she may whine briefly at first, then settles quietly.

Walking & Travel

Shine is still learning how to walk on leash.

She does fine in quiet areas, but busy roads with cars make her nervous. With gentle patience and encouragement, she improves and will continue to gain confidence.

She is currently an outdoor potty dog.

She is afraid of getting into the car and needs to be lifted in, but she rides calmly once inside.

Ideal Home

Shine would do best in a home where she can be close to her people and receive gentle guidance as she continues learning.

She is perfect for someone looking for a sweet, loyal, and affectionate companion — either as an only dog or with a calm, respectful dog.

More about this rescue

Adopt Korean Rescue is a volunteer-based federally registered not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping homeless and unwanted dogs in South Korea find a new home in Canada.

We love Korean dogs. Many of them live in chains, give birth on the side of the road, or wander around with their pups. Some of them get caught and end up at dog meat farms or high-kill shelters in South Korea. They luckily meet us just before euthanasia or after many years of living in dog meat farms. We exist to hold their paws and help them find a forever home in Canada full of joy and happiness.

Our dog rescue work depends on our flight volunteers. They help us safely bring our dogs from Korea to Vancouver or Toronto airports, where the dogs will find loving forever or foster homes.
