Cheryl is a 1-year-old, 53-pound young lady who is currently soaking up the comforts of foster life—and showing just how much potential she has. She can be a bit shy when you first meet her, but with a little time and patience, Cheryl warms up beautifully and reveals her sweet, affectionate side. Once she’s comfortable, she loves being close to her person and happily seeks out gentle cuddles.
Cheryl is a fun, energetic girl who enjoys spending time outdoors. In the yard, she’ll happily show off her zoomies, playful bounces, and love of fetch—especially with her favorite big Kong ball. She also enjoys long walks and exploring off the beaten path at the park, where her curious and adventurous spirit really shines.
In the home, Cheryl is settling into a solid routine and has made great progress with housetraining. She does well in her crate at night and is learning how to relax both inside and outside of it. She’s also started working on basic commands like sit and stay and is impressively patient and eager to learn.
On leash, Cheryl does best wearing a harness and is generally polite and curious when she sees other people and dogs. She’s excited to meet new friends and may jump up when greeting—something she’s actively working on in foster. She has met other dogs at BARCS and has been gentle with her dog pals.
Cheryl is a young dog still learning about the world, and she would thrive with an adopter who is willing to continue positive, reward-based training and provide structure, guidance, and consistency. She’s high-energy, very people-oriented, and deeply enjoys being near her humans.
Cheryl is currently in the comfort of a foster home. If you’re interested in meeting her, please complete an application and email dogfosters@barcs.org for next steps. Please check back soon for more updates as we continue getting to know this sweet girl!
I`m a VIP because I`m still learning, and the shelter can be a tough place for dogs like me to shine. But I’ve got a whole team cheering me on!
Here are a few things the staff and volunteers are helping me with:
• Learning to channel my extra energy in fun, healthy ways • Figuring out how to walk politely without chewing or mouthing the leash • Learning to make the right dog friends at the right pace • Feeling less stressed/fearful in my kennel • Keeping my paws on the ground and learning polite ways to show I’m excited • Practicing how to take breaks

BARCS takes in new animals in need of a loving home every day. The pictures above only represent a portion of the animals that are available for adoption at any given time. Some animals get adopted immediately and their photos never make it onto our website—which is wonderful! If you don’t see what you are looking for, please visit our shelter to meet your perfect match today! Adoption fees are $75; however, we offer several adoption packages listed here. Our adoption hours are Monday-Friday from 2-6 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

Once your application is approved, you will participate in an adoption class where you will learn all of the details about your new adopted family member, including their known history and medical records.
What else to expect: Animals who are already spayed/neutered and past their stray hold (if applicable) can often go home with you the same day. Pick-up arrangements for unaltered animals and/or animals still on a stray hold will be made during your adoption class.
**Please note: Animals listed on our adoption pages may still be on stray hold and pending reunion with their owners, or have an existing pending adoption application.
