My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Darlene is looking for her forever family!

— Female
— 2 years old
— 35 pounds
— Spayed, vaccinated, microchipped
— Heartworm negative & on prevention
— Potty trained
— Loves puppies
— Has done well with kids
— Loving, sweet, playful, spunky

PERSONALITY: Darlene is a perfect petite sized love bug! She is affectionate, cuddly, loves people, toys, destroying tennis balls, playing with puppies, going on walks, and being queen of her yard.

KIDS: Darlene has visited the park several times meeting kids and did great with them! She let them pet and hug all over her. She also met a 3 year old another time and did wonderful; but did have to be corrected for some affectionate jumpiness to not knock them over. Kids stabilized enough to not be knocked over and play with her would probably be good for Darlene.

DOGS: Darlene has not wanted to make friends with adult big dogs so far, but she loves puppies! Darlene was a great mama to her own babies. Several weeks after they departed, we had two shy undersocialized puppies around 7 weeks old who needed a foster. Mama Darlene took right to them and has now raised them as her own too. Having another dog with Darlene doesn’t seem to be out of the question forever; she just seems to want to raise them as her own first from puppy age right now. If puppy fostering is your thing, Darlene may be your girl to help!

HISTORY: Mama Darlene had been roaming the streets for quite some time. Unfortunately, animal control denied her due to space. Neighbors began to worry and seek out help again once realizing Darlene was now also heavily pregnant and miserably mangey. Space remained an issue though and she was denied by animal control again. We were thankfully able to secure a foster for her and step in; right in time as Darlene went into labor just a week later and ended up needing an emergency c-section.

LOCATION: Currently in foster in Griffin, GA. We do a home check with all fosters/adopters, so no need to travel, we will come to you within 2 hours.

AVAILABILITY: Available for adoption or foster-to-adopt (FTA). FTA is a 2 week commitment-free trial run to make sure things are a fit before sealing the deal and officially adopting.

More about this rescue

Joy’s Promise is a promise to keep fighting for those like Joy. The discarded, unwanted, abused and neglected. It won’t always look like Joy, a pregnant mama facing euthanasia. It might be a pittie sitting animal control for months, years unwanted. It might be a boxer mix from a terrible hoarding case. It might be an owner surrender that lost everything they have ever known. It might be a box of puppies who were tossed without the slightest remorse. Joy’s Promise is a promise for Joy’s death to not be in vain, but a catalyst for more lives saved.

Joy’s Promise Canine Rescue is a registered nonprofit corporation and an actively licensed GDA animal shelter. We are a foster-based organization in the process of filing 501c3 paperwork.
