My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

In early December, we received an urgent call for help and, without hesitation, we answered.
It's been a few weeks now and, after some settling in time, we are happy to introduce all to Hojo!

Hojo has not had an easy life, but you'd never know it based on her extraordinary resilience, her willingness to trust, and her joyful demeanor.

Having lost the only caretaker she has known, all while living in less than ideal conditions- both caged and covered, she continues to blossom into a beautiful and forgiving soul.

Hojo is a 35 year old confirmed Female Blue Fronted Amazon.
She is quite petite.and dainty for her species, but she possesses the biggest heart.
Hojo lives for kisses..and isn't shy about asking for them.
Hojo will lean in and make a soft almost questioning sound asking for a kiss.

Hojo has made great progress with stepping up, and allows herself to be carried close to chest. She appears to yearn for that closeness.

Hojo sounds perfect but there are some challenges.
She is LOUD. Hojo likes to scream, and will do so randomly and continuously until she is satisfied with herself.

Hojo has gotten her taste of freedom from her cage and takes full advantage of that time.
Out of cage time is a requirement for this girl.
Once she has to go in- mainly if her foster mom is leaving the house, Hojo will ( and does) protest.
She makes her discontent known- this is one of those screaming moments mentioned above.

Therefore, adopting Hojo is limited to those who reside in a free-standing home.

Hojo is a wanderer! She can be destructive.  Wood is her go-to.
Furniture, molding, doors..you name it, she'll chew it.
A java tree or free standing perch with plenty of toys is ideal.
Supervision is vital to save your possessions from this girl with the skills of a beaver.

Despite her love of wood, Hojo is a very gentle soul who loves deeply.
She is indifferent to dogs, and curious about other birds- she does not have a history of having been around other birds however.
Obvious caution is always recommended.

Diet consists of a mixture of Harrison's coarse pellets mixed with Higgins Mayan.

Hojo has been introduced to egg whites, leafy greens, carrots, and some fruits that she thoroughly enjoys.

This little lady is an adorable little hurricane who is looking to love her forever family.

Hojo has been disease tested for chlamydia and PBFD.

She is being fostered in Howell, NJ and will require in-person visits before adoption.
We do not ship our birds.
For the Love of Birds is a network of dedicated foster homes throughout NJ and Eastern PA.
As our adoptable birds are living in private volunteer homes, we only allow approved adopters to make the required visits.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The adoption procedure begins with completing an adoption application and returning it to us. We will check your references and then call you for a telephone interview. While we check your references, we will ask that you review an educational power point presentation. After your application is approved, it is our policy that you visit with the bird(s) three times to have multiple interactions with them and give you time to consider the adoption and get ready for your new family member. There is an adoption fee for each bird.
