Lizzy is a sweet Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier who is learning how to be a dog for the very first time. She came from a breeder who failed to socialize her, keeping her isolated during the very years when puppies learn how to be dogs. Because of that, Lizzy missed out on so much 💔 When she first came to us, she was very shy and unsure of the world—but she is making beautiful progress every day.
She has gone from cowering and hiding to running and jumping to greet her trusted people. Lizzy is still shy and slow to warm up, but when given patience and space, she will come around on her own terms. Watching her confidence grow is incredibly rewarding ❤️ She’s learning how to play with toys, what affection feels like, and what safety means.
Lizzy’s future home:
• A home with another confident, friendly dog (same size or larger) who can help show her the ropes
• A home with someone who is home most of the time and able to continue building her confidence
• A secure, fenced yard where Lizzy can safely explore and build confidence at her own pace
• No small animals (Wheaten Terriers are known to have a prey drive)
• Adults only, as Lizzy is still skittish and learning to feel safe
• A calm, patient environment where she can continue to blossom
Lizzy is making up for lost time—learning to play, explore, and trust. She doesn’t need perfection, just understanding ❤️ For the right home, she will be a deeply special companion.
This is what rescue is truly about.
Lizzy is 6 years old, 27lbs, spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and heartworm negative. She’s in St. Petersburg and her adoption fee is $350.
