My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

When Rocket Man found his way to us, he had already had a rough go at life despite his young age. Abandoned outside in a heat wave, attacked by other cats, bounced from unstable home to unstable home, and never given proper care. He, understandably, was stressed out and needed some time to decompress. In those early days, we never could have imagined that he would blossom into the outstanding version of himself that we know today.

In all of our years working with cats, we can confidently say we have never met another cat like Rocket Man. He is goofy, people-oriented, curious, affectionate, and hilariously playful. He thrives being near his people and always wants to be involved in what we're doing. He is also very, very intelligent! We taught him how to sit quite easily, and he now knows a long list of tricks - sit, paw, switch paws, spin, sit pretty, kiss, and more! Due to how amazingly smart this guy is, you may need to do a bit of "kitty-proofing" to combat his antics. He has taught himself how to open some doors/certain drawers and he adores a good treat puzzle.

Rocket Man can be a bit mouthy and can sometimes try to play with humans the way most cats play with other cats, though he never hurts anyone and is a gentle soul at heart. Due to this, he would likely do best with an experienced adopter or someone willing to be patient and learn his quirks. Rocket Man has made it clear that he does not enjoy the company of other cats, so he needs to be the only pet in the home. Rocket Man also has some very mild medical needs that are being fully taken care of by simply eating a special type of food - we are happy to discuss this more in depth with anyone interested in this special guy.

This is a courtesy listing, meaning the cat(s) are being offered for adoption by a rescuer, rescue group, or individual unaffiliated with the Brooklyn Cat Cafe or Brooklyn Bridge Animal Welfare Coalition. As BBAWC has not evaluated the animal(s) we therefore cannot provide information on health or temperament. After we receive an application, we will connect you with the current caretaker of this cat.

This cat would prefer to be adopted alone and be the only cat in the home.

More about this rescue

Our rescue group was formed in December 2007, but all our Board Members have had extensive experience rescuing and working with abandoned animals. We often work with other rescue organizations to find appropriate and safe foster and adoptive homes for our pet clients. We regularly go to areas with abandoned animals and collect them. The animals are taken to a licensed veterinarian examined, treated and spayed or neutered. Every effort is made to work with the animal and our foster and adoptive families to find a suitable forever home.

For those animals who are truly wild and feral, we release the animal in a safe and secure location after it has recovered from its medical treatment. We also work with certified wildlife rehabilitators to rescue injured and orphaned wildlife. Our organization is focused on improving the welfare of the abandoned animals in need of help in Brooklyn. In furthering that goal, our resources are focused on the animals.

Aside from a few minimal overhead costs such as our website and phone services, our entire budget is spent on animal care such as medical and food costs.
