My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi... um, hello. I'm Nitro. Yes-like the cold brew. Smooth, a little intense at first, and best appreciated once I've had a moment to settle in. I'm a beautiful brown tabby, which means I have excellent stripes and a very serious face that sometimes makes people think I'm judging them. I'm not. I'm just... assessing. New sounds, new movements, new vibes. I like to be prepared. I can be a little nervous at first. Sudden noises? Suspicious. Fast hands? Questionable. But if you sit quietly, talk softly, and let me come to you, you'll discover that I'm actually very nice. I enjoy gentle pets, calm company, and being nearby where I can observe everything safely. Once I trust you, I'm loyal, sweet, and surprisingly affectionate. I might not announce myself like some cats do, but I'll choose your side of the couch and stay there. That's a big deal.
My name is Nitro because, like my namesake, I'm smoother than I look-and once I warm up, I'm really quite comforting.
Thank you for being patient with me. I think I like you.

More about this shelter

Founded in 1955, Woods Humane Society is a nonprofit organization which receives no tax funds, but is supported by donations, grants, bequests, fundraising events and fees for services. Woods is independent of San Luis Obispo County Animal Services, but works in close cooperation with them and other animal groups in the county for the welfare of all animals.

Woods now cares for over 3,000 cats and dogs each year at our facilities in San Luis Obispo and Atascadero until they can be united with loving forever families. We bring in animals from other shelters where they are less likely to be adopted and from individuals who are no longer able to care for their pets. Woods is committed to finding loving homes for all healthy and treatable pets, no matter how long it takes. With our behavior and veterinary resources, we are able to go the extra mile for animals in need.
