My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Say hello to the one and only... TUGBOAT JOE!!

Tugboat is ready to start his new life off and find the home where he can be doted and loved on for all his days!

Lets get it out of the way now... Tugboat is LARGE. This sailor is seeking an active home that can offer him lots of exercise, and a controlled diet to get to his ideal weight. His previous home wasn't able to offer walks, and Tugboat and his siblings didn't get the chance to shed off the weight while there, so they have become rather round. Tugboat Joe will benefit greatly from someone who craves adventure and can help him thrive and unlock the energy that's been hidden away from him, and extend his life with great health!

Tugboat Joe is such a funny, curious and affectionate boy, and wants nothing more than to be your friend, getting all of the love in and sneaking a few kisses when he can. He would love a nice yard to roam in or frequent walks, and is a fan of sniffing out new places. He is goofy and snorty, and will sneak into your lap if you allow him!

Due to the number of dogs in his previous home, Tugboat has never really gotten any 1v1 training, so would benefit from starting from the basics to get his paws under him.
He has also shown signs of a bit of barrier frustration while here to other dogs from outside his home, so would benefit from lots of positive reinforcement and reassurance, and calm and collected behavior.
He may prefer to be in a home alone, but we would be open to introducing him to new friends to see how he feels!

The BC SPCA is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for domestic, farm and wild animals in British Columbia. Through its locations and operations across the province the BC SPCA provides emergency medical care and sheltering for more than 37,000 animals each year. The society also conducts more than 4,600 cruelty investigations and provides a wide range of advocacy and education programs for domestic, farm and wild animals through its Provincial Office.

Our mission, vision and charter is at the heart of all we do to rescue, protect and care for animals. It is also the driving force behind our animal welfare and education programs.

    Our Charter:

The BC SPCA Charter is the foundation that guides the work we do:

    Whereas:

The world is inhabited by many species sharing a common ecosystem of air, earth, and water. We recognize and value our interconnectedness with all animals.

    Therefore:

The BC Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for the animals of the world we share.

We pledge our energies to inspire and mobilize society to create a world in which all animals, who depend on humans for their well-being, experience, as a minimum, five essential freedoms:

    1. Freedom from hunger and thirst

    2. Freedom from pain, injury, and disease

    3. Freedom from distress

    4. Freedom from discomfort

    5. Freedom to express behaviours that promote well-being.
