My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Zara, a stunning 50-pound Oreo-colored beauty who is looking for a family that can finally give her the ‘quality time she’s been dreaming of.

Zara was surrendered through no fault of her own; her previous owners simply realized they couldn`t give her the attention and exercise a smart, vibrant girl like her needs. Now, she’s ready to find a forever home where she isn`t just a pet, but a central part of the family.

Zara’s previous family had nothing but glowing things to say about her. She is:
•Smart & Attentive: She catches on quickly and loves to please.
•A Total Sweetheart: Her `sweet and affectionate` nature makes her an elite-tier cuddler.
•Kid-Approved: She has lived with children as young as five years old and did wonderfully.
•While Zara doesn`t necessarily have a high prey drive, her history with cats is a bit `muddied` with conflicting information. To ensure everyone stays happy and safe, we are looking for a cat-free home for her.
•Dogs: We haven`t had the chance to test her with other dogs at the shelter yet. If you have a resident pup, we’d require a slow, supervised meet-and-greet to see if they’re a match!

During a routine vet visit, Zara tested positive for Lyme disease. Because of the way these tests work, we can`t tell if she was simply exposed to it in the past or if she has an active infection.

The good news? Zara is currently asymptomatic (showing no signs of illness), so no treatment has been started. We recommend that her new family sits down with their veterinarian to create a monitoring plan or run further diagnostic tests to decide if treatment is needed down the road.

Zara isn`t just a `good dog`—she’s a loyal companion who is eager to learn and even more eager to cuddle.

Zara is spayed and has received core vaccinations (bordetella, canine distemper, rabies), flea + tick preventative, has been dewormed, and is microchipped.
