My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Dr. Calico, a brand new arrival from Kings County with a very official-sounding name and absolutely no interest in being called something ordinary. Yes, we know, we use “Dr. Calico” a lot. But look, we are a shelter, we are doing our best, and at least we are not calling every calico “Callie” like it is a mandatory setting.

Right now, Dr. Calico is more “quiet intern on the first day” than “confident professional who runs this place.” She is on the shy side and still building her confidence, so she is looking for someone who can offer a gentle hello, a little patience, and the kind of calm home where she can come out of her shell at her own pace. Come meet her and see if you are the one who helps Dr. Calico grow from “new arrival” into the coziest, most beloved doctor in your household.

More about this shelter

Founded in 1868, The SF SPCA is a community-supported nonprofit dedicated to saving, protecting and caring for cats and dogs. We do this through immediate care of animals that are homeless, ill or in need of an advocate, but we also work to educate the community, reduce the number of unwanted kittens and puppies through spaying/neutering, and improve the quality of life for animals and their companions.
