My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Amicus is a distinguished senior gentleman (11 years young) who’s ready to trade shelter life for a calm, cozy retirement home full of long walks, good sniffs, and sunny windows to watch the world go by. He’s a big guy (100lbs) with an even bigger nose, sniffing is his superpower, and exploring the world at his own pace is his favorite pastime.

Amicus has a calm, steady demeanor and prefers soft, respectful affection. He enjoys gentle pets (especially booty rubs!), will happily lean in when he’s in the mood, and is also perfectly content just being near his people. He’ll politely move away when he needs space and may even sit and offer his paw yes, he knows sit and shake! He’s not a social butterfly, but once he warms up, his quiet companionship really shines.

He’s lived with other dogs before and can do well with dog-savvy companions who respect his space and boundaries. He enjoys having his own bubble and would thrive with other calm dogs or as your one-and-only. He may be a good fit for a home with respectful kids who understand gentle interactions.

Amicus loves long, meandering walks, sniff mats, bouncing balls (just watching, no playing!), and especially baby voices. Windows are a must, he’s a big fan of critter-watching. He does best with room to move and explore, as confined spaces can make him anxious.

Though he’s technically a senior, Amicus is really just a baby at heart, one who’s still decompressing and learning that good things are ahead. He’s looking for a patient, loving home that will let him settle in at his own pace and enjoy the simple joys of life. Amicus does have senior needs, like managing his arthritis and being on top of his joint supplement.

If you’re searching for a loyal companion who values presence over pressure and believes every walk is an adventure, Amicus might just be your perfect match.

Additional adoption info

Dog Adoptions: $200
Cat Adoptions: $100

Please take a moment to review our Adoption Policy prior to applying to adopt a pet.

CHS accepts multiple applications on each animal, we are not first come first serve. Our team of adoption counselors will help matchmake every individual pet and family to ensure the best fit for all.

Must be 21 to adopt with a valid driver's license or state ID card.

We ask all members of the household to meet the new pet, some pets require multiple visits to build necessary relationships.

To align with our mission of solving the homeless pet crisis, all household pets must be spayed and neutered, up to date on necessary vaccinations, and live in the same household as the adopter. If not currently established with a veterinarian, a vet deposit will be required.

Cats and dogs adopted from CHS are indoor only.

Every pet is an individual, and many have individual needs such as : post adoption training (included with adoption), multiple meet and greets to feel comfortable, medical needs, etc. Our adoption counselors will communicate these needs with all interested families.

CHS will not begin adoption process with an individual when:

A person is reasonably believed to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Landlord or residence does not allow pets, or the living situation does not accommodate consistency for the pet (e.g. student housing, four unrelated adults living together, ect.)

Applications may be denied for any reason, including but not limited to an individual failing to comply with conditions of past adoption.
