Meet Sassafras, aka Sass, aka the emotional-support spice you didn’t know your life was missing. She’s sweet like cinnamon, clingy like melted caramel, and absolutely convinced she was meant to be carried around like a prized loaf of freshly made sourdough bread. Sass doesn’t want affection — she requires it, preferably in the form of being held like a baby while receiving smooches and whispered affirmations about how perfect she is. She’s warm, cozy, mildly dramatic, and will happily season your entire life with cuddles, kisses, and the strong belief that personal space is a myth invented by people without dogs.
Meet Sassafras, a 6-week-old, 9.8-lb female Pyr/Lab mix (based on Mama Rosemary’s looks), and yes — before you ask — her dad was almost certainly very handsome. Given Mama Rosemary clocks in around 72 lbs and Sass plus her siblings are already built like they’re training for a future in home security, we’re guessing this spicy little nugget will land somewhere in the 60–70ish lb range. Or not. We could be wildly wrong. That’s part of the fun. With Sassafras, you don’t just adopt a puppy — you adopt a daily guessing game involving breed, weight, and how large her paws will be tomorrow. It’s basically fantasy football, but fluffier, and with more kisses. Sassafras came to us after her mama was pulled from the urgent list while heavily pregnant, so this little spice rack superstar has known nothing but safety, snuggles, and unconditional love since day one. She’s sweet, she’s cuddly, she’s absolutely convinced she belongs in your arms like a baby burrito, and she’s already seasoning every room she enters with pure joy.
Sassafras is what you’d call emotionally inclusive. She loves her mom, she adores her siblings, but she’s also the type who sees another dog minding their own business and thinks, “Yes. That one. I belong there now.” When Auntie Tsu decided to nap outside the puppy gate, Sass didn’t hesitate — she parked herself nearby like a tiny, devoted bodyguard and fell asleep on duty. Even after everyone else wandered off, Sass stayed put. Loyalty? Impeccable. Personal boundaries? Never heard of her. Cats are currently a mystery. No formal introductions yet, but given her general vibe, we suspect she’d either try to snuggle them or politely assume they were odd, hairless puppies and proceed accordingly. As for kids — she hasn’t met any yet, but let’s be honest. This is future head nanny energy. The kind of dog who would supervise snack time, nap time, and emotional well-being with deep seriousness.
Sassafras currently clocks in at about a 6 out of 10 on the energy scale. She’s the kind of puppy who lounges dramatically like she’s had a very long day, until — without warning — she decides it is Play O’Clock and everyone around her should immediately be emotionally and physically prepared for that. The play bursts are short, enthusiastic, and non-negotiable. Afterwards, she returns to her regularly scheduled cuddling like nothing happened. Personality-wise, Sass is a professional snuggle specialist. Her life’s mission is to be held like a baby, receive excessive smooches, and be told she’s perfect at least 47 times a day. That said, she does occasionally remember she’s a puppy and will demand a very serious game of tug o war with her favorite octopus toy, as if her reputation depends on it.
Your mission — should you choose to accept it — is to help Sass grow into the kind of dog who can go anywhere — the park, the patio, the hardware store, even that one friend’s house who always has to have everything perfect. Potty training? That’s on you, bestie. Sass did not arrive pre-installed with bathroom software. Socialization? Also your job. Sass is sweet and loving, but she still needs to meet humans, dogs, children, new places, strange sounds, and everyday household objects that puppies inexplicably believe are personal enemies. Exposure is key if you’d like her to grow into a confident adult instead of a dramatic noodle who panics over the wind changing directions. Training? Fully your responsibility. Sass is not studying obedience manuals in her free time. She is a blank page. A soft little sponge. A baby spice learning how the world works. With patience, structure, and consistency, she’ll grow into a loyal, affectionate, well-mannered dog who brings warmth, humor, and just the right amount of sass into your life — the kind of dog people fall in love with five minutes after meeting her and never shut up about again.
So anyway. If you’re in the market for a cuddly little spice who will happily season your life with snuggles, kisses, and mild emotional dependency, Sassafras is ready to report for duty. If you’d like to be chosen as her person, you’ll need to fill out an adoption application at https://www.pyrpawsandfluffytailsrescue.com/adoption-app so we can pass it along to her foster family — because yes, there is a process, and no, she cannot simply be “claimed” via vibes alone. Pickup will be in Broken Arrow, and fair warning: she cannot go home until after February 24th, because even spices need a little more time to simmer. Apply now, start emotionally preparing, and get ready to explain to everyone you know why you suddenly schedule your entire life around a puppy named Sassafras.
