My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Kolby is being fostered in Story City IA

Drum roll please!!!! Meet Kolby!  This ADORABLE male black tri standard Australian Shepherd was born on 10/30/2025.  He is just the sweetest and cutest little guy, but don't let his looks fool you!  He came from a working farm and will need both mental and physical stimulation DAILY.  He will also need to stay on a schedule for potty and crate training.  The best news, at his age, he is already sleeping through the night in his kennel.  He will need someone home more than not to continue his potty training successfully,

He is brave, curious and SILLY!  So eager to please and learn.  He is fostered with other dogs and is being exposed to so many different stimuli so he can be properly socialized.  Socialization at a young age is CRITICAL for Aussies or else they can become guard dogs. Proper leadership, positive reinforcement training and continued socialization with the world is critical for him to grow up and be the best boy he can be.  Aussies are not a great dog for a first time dog owner. We recommend doing your research on the breed and understanding they will require a minimum of 2-3 hours DAILY of mental and physical stimulation.

Kolby is dewormed, microchipped, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations and taking monthly prevention for fleas, ticks and heartworm.  He will be adopted on a spay/neuter contract with a spay/neuter deposit.  Once that is completed, the deposit can be returned.  We do require proof of purchase of heartworm purchase for all current and prior pets.

NOTE:  All of our dogs live in foster homes with volunteers so we need an approved application on file to set up a meet with a dog you might have an interest in.  Please visit our website for more information on our adoption process, our adoption fees and a link to our adoption application.  We pride ourselves on matches that work for both the dog and your family.  MASR is here for your support, advice and safety net for our dogs for the remainder of their lives.  www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org

Additional adoption info

Meeting any dog within MASR requires an approved adoption application on file. We process as quickly as possible via volunteers. Then connect an applicant one at a time with a dog and foster home to arrange a meet and greet. If all parties at the meet and greet, including the dog, are in agreement that it is a good fit, the dog goes home that day.
