Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Do you have room on your couch — and in your heart — for a little shadow who just wants to feel safe and loved?”
Hi, I’m Gia.
I came to Chicago Animal Care and Control as an owner surrender, and it was clear I had been loved — but somewhere along the way, my coat got really matted and uncomfortable. My fur was so tangled and heavy, pulled tight against my skin, that it hurt to move and made everything feel a little scary.
The team knew right away I needed help, so off to the vet I went for a medical shave. And wow… what a difference! Once all those heavy mats were gone, I felt like a brand-new dog. Lighter. Comfier. Happier. My tail started wagging, my eyes got brighter, and the world didn’t feel so overwhelming anymore.
Turns out, underneath all that fur, I’m just a soft, gentle girl who wants to be right next to her person at all times. I’m happiest when I’m close enough to touch you — your little shadow, your quiet companion. I don’t ask for much… just a safe place to land and someone to snuggle with.
I’m a professional couch potato, by the way. Give me a cozy blanket and a spot beside you, and I’m set for the day. Movies, naps, lazy mornings? That’s my love language.
If you’re looking for a sweet, loyal girl who will stick by your side and remind you every day how good it feels to be home… I’m Gia, and I can’t wait to meet you.

Our fees include a full medical exam by a veterinarian. This includes a Feline Leukemia and FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus) test for cats, Rabies and Distemper Vaccines, deworming and Spay/Neuter. Dogs receive a Heartworm Check, Spay/Neuter, Rabies and Distemper Vaccines, Canine Flu Vaccine, deworming, and Kennel Cough preventative. Our modest adoption fees do not cover the procedures and vet work that we provide the animals. We fundraise to make up the difference. Any ongoing medical needs that C.A.R.E. is aware of are explained fully, (including daily medicine costs), to the potential adopter, and become the responsibility of the adopter.
