Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Will You Be the One to Show Me That Love Is Real?
Hi, I'm Pixie. I'm about 5 years old, and I need to tell you something—I've been through a lot. I spent time on the streets trying to survive, ended up at Chicago Animal Care and Control, and before all of that? Let's just say the people in my life weren't kind to me.
I learned not to trust. I learned to be scared. I learned that the world could be a really hard place.
But then the people at CARE met me, and they saw something I didn't even know was still there. They noticed my tail doing these tiny, hopeful wags when someone speaks softly to me. They saw the quiet wiggles I try to hide when I'm getting gentle attention. They saw past the fear to the dog I really am underneath.
Here's the truth: I have so much love to give. It's all bottled up inside me, just waiting for the right person to help me let it out. I want to trust again. I want to feel safe. I want to know what it's like to have a home where nobody hurts me, where kindness is the norm, where I can finally, finally relax.
There are glimpses of the real me already showing through. I love car rides—something about them makes me feel calm and hopeful, like maybe good things really are around the corner. Every day I'm here, I'm learning that gentleness exists, that not all humans are scary, that maybe this whole "forever home" thing people talk about could actually happen for me.
I need someone who understands what I've been through. Someone patient who won't rush me or expect me to be a confident, carefree dog right away. Someone who can see that underneath this scared exterior is a dog with a heart full of love that's just been waiting for someone safe enough to give it to.
I've waited long enough. I've survived enough. I'm ready to finally know what real, true, unconditional love feels like—the kind I'm ready to give back tenfold.
So here's what I'm asking: Will you be that person for me? Will you give me the time I need to heal? Will you show me that life can be gentle?
Because I'm here. I'm ready. I'm hoping you are too.
