My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

What my friends at ACC say about me:

I'm sensitive and shy. I'll need extra help from you.

I have lived with cats in my previous home.

I'm an independent kitty who likes to do my own thing.

Hi Hat tolerates attention and petting but appears fearful or stressed in the shelter. He may be a little more independent and may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents. Due to the behavior shown, he may not be a great fit for young children. Any home with older children prepared to adopt this cat should conduct a thorough interaction and endeavor to monitor this cat around their children to prevent these behaviors from being reinforced.

Hi, my name is Hi Hat and the shelter has been a little overwhelming for me. I came from a home with many cats, who I've gotten along with well. Because I've lived in this home my entire life and have only been around one person, I have little experience with people and am hesitant of new experiences. I would enjoy living in a quiet home, preferably one with lots of vertical space so I have a place to perch and observe the room. I would also appreciate having experienced, patient adopter(s) who are willing to take things slow with me. I would benefit from socialization, using rewards whenever I make a small positive step like making eye contact, allowing petting, or sniffing your hand. I'd prefer to take things at my own pace, and would appreciate some good old fashion TLC. If you can open your heart to adopt a cat like me, I'll hopefully have the confidence to come around to my new people, like you!

My foster writes: Puppy is a break out star! He surprised us all with how curious and affectionate he's become. He completely hid the first 2 weeks and froze at the sight of any human. Then he learned how nice we can be. Now he's our biggest fan-he can't get enough! He comes running when he sees us, and his purr motor doesn't seem to have an off button. If you're busy, he will either sit and stare until you're ready! There are cute little white markings hidden on his underside which you can only see when he's rolling around. He's also very comfortable with our resident foster dog. Puppy is having fun exploring and learning about the world through a puppy's eyes. Meet him today!

A volunteer writes: Hi Hat's approach to shelter life is an absolute lesson in doing the best you can with what you have. He came to us from a home with many other cats, so while we don't know much about his life before, we can see that learning the ins and outs of the Care Center has put him on an unenviable learning curve. Snuggled in the back of his cubby, he greeted me with wide eyes and a face full of questions that seemed to heart breakingly ask for me to simply be nice to him. Hi Hat wasn't waving his paws around as he asked for pets or treats, but rather just some of my time spent quietly listening to what his days have been looking like.
