  • Good with cats: No

  • Resource guarding: None

  • Barking: Alert barker

  • Shedding: Minimal

  • Energy Level: Low–Medium

Caramelo — which means “sweet” — truly lives up to his name. He is affectionate, loving, and playful, with a gentle nature that shines the moment you meet him. Despite enduring hardship early in life, his trust in people remains beautifully intact. He is resilient, kind-hearted, and eager to love.

He is intelligent, confident, and naturally curious. When he enters a new space, he calmly takes it all in, assessing his surroundings with quiet confidence. At daycare, he enjoys playing with other dogs but is equally content resting independently when he’s ready to recharge.

Training & Daily Life

  • Leash trained: Yes

  • Crate trained: Yes (for travel)

  • Potty trained: Proven to adjust well in a home with proper routine and guidance

Currently, Caramelo stays in an open daycare facility where he shares space with other dogs. He sleeps indoors in his assigned kennel area and does very well in a structured environment.

Ideal Home

Caramelo would thrive in:

  • A family with respectful children

  • A home with another friendly dog

  • Or with someone seeking a loyal, adaptable companion

Thanks to his compact size and easygoing nature, he’s a wonderful dog to include in everyday adventures. A secure home and loving environment will allow him to continue growing in confidence and feeling safe.

His Rescue Story

At just 8 months old, Caramelo was found living at a plant market under heartbreaking conditions. He had been tied up with tape wrapped around his mouth to stop him from barking. A compassionate rescuer witnessed this and refused to look away. She advocated for him and brought him to safety.

Though faint marks remain as reminders of his past, Caramelo has long since embraced love and security. Today, he is healthy, trusting, and patiently waiting for the forever home he so deeply deserves.

Caramelo is proof that even after hardship, a heart can remain soft.

Caramelo is waiting in Mexico for a committed trial family so he can travel north
