My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Max: The Resilient Shih Tzu
Max is a stunning 8-year-old, 12-pound Shih Tzu with a heartwarming story of resilience and love. After experiencing the loss of his beloved owner when he passed, Max was found abandoned in the house with his sibling, facing an uncertain future. Initially, he was understandably scared, but his resilient spirit quickly shone through.
A Journey from Fear to Affection
Despite his initial fear, Max's gentle nature emerged as he discovered the kindness of his rescuers. He quickly became very affectionate, showcasing his loving personality. His journey from fear to trust is a testament to his enduring spirit and capacity for love.
Health and Well-being
Max is in excellent health, having received all necessary vaccinations. He is heartworm negative, microchipped, and neutered, ensuring that he is ready for his new forever home. His health and well-being have been a priority throughout his rescue process.
House Training and Behavior
Max is doing well with house training and is adapting rapidly to a new routine. He is comfortable on a leash, making walks a delightful experience for both him and his caregiver. Additionally, Max handles car rides with ease, making him a great companion for travel and adventures.
Social Skills
Max is dog-friendly, enjoying the company of other dogs, which could make him a perfect addition to a family with existing pets. His sociable nature complements his affectionate demeanor, ensuring he fits seamlessly into any loving household.
A Beautiful Companion
Max is a truly beautiful black Shih Tzu, not just in appearance but in spirit as well. His journey has made him a symbol of hope and love, ready to bring joy and companionship to a new family. If you're seeking a loyal, affectionate friend, Max could be the perfect match for you.

More about this rescue

BMAR is a No-Kill facility: a place of safety for healthy adoptable animals, a home for the homeless, a haven for the mistreated, neglected, or abused animals of Sabine & surrounding counties. BMAR also runs a sanctuary for those deemed unadoptible due to medical and behavior issues.

100% Volunteer Rescue. We have no animal control, Humane Society, or SPCA operating in our area leaving animals in dire straights.

BMAR is dedicated to the prevention of cruelty & abuse to all animals & livestock.

We currently only adopt to states and Canada where we have a network in place to monitor animals and help with problems.

BMAR backs it's dogs for life and will take back no matter how long and at any time if circumstance arise and you cannot keep your pet.
