My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Mittens was brought in by their previous owner on March 10th, 2026.

Why this pet is the one for you:
Meet Mittens! Mittens is a thoughtful little observer who prefers to take in the world at her own pace. When she first arrives in a new place, she may hang back and quietly scope things out while she figures out the lay of the land. Give her a bit of time and patience, though, and you'll see her curiosity start to shine. Once she feels comfortable, Mittens happily soaks up pets, attention and may even wander over for the occasional surprise cuddle session. Mittens previously lived with another cat and did well sharing her space. A calm home and a patient human (or two) will help her settle in nicely. Mittens also has a bit of a door-dashing streak-she's quick on her paws and always curious about what's on the other side! Because of this, future adopters should be mindful of open doors. Are you ready for curious hallway patrols, gentle pets and the occasional surprise cuddle visit? Mittens has that covered-just don't forget a secure carrier for her safe ride home!

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
