Story
Meet Penny, a 6-year-old Basenji mix with a heart full of love and a spirited personality. Originally from Mexico, Penny made her way to California in December 2020 and was quickly adopted. However, she was returned when her previous family found out they were expecting a baby, and Penny wasn’t comfortable around the little one. Penny is a sweet and loving dog who thrives in the right environment. She’s fully house trained, never has accidents inside, and is a joy to have around. Penny enjoys long walks and playing with her toys, but she also loves relaxing and taking naps next to her favorite people. While Penny is not good with other dogs, cats, or kids, she is an ideal companion in a home where she can be the sole focus of attention. She’s working on her reactivity to other dogs on walks, so a patient family willing to help her through her anxiety would be the perfect fit. If you’re looking for a loyal and affectionate dog who will shower you with love and appreciate a calm, dog-free home, Penny is ready to become a cherished member of your family.

Story
This is Chance. He’d had a bit of a rough time before we took him into the rescue, but he’s overcome everything it had thrown at him. Very scared at first, Chance is sadly still a little wary of people He’s very sweet, patient and loving. He’s happy to just have a spot in a comfy home, doesn’t bark or fuss Chance loves to play and be around other dogs. A home with other dogs is a must. He’s very submissive, shares his toys and will turn away from overbearing dogs. He is a little guarded over food and needs to be fed separately He needs a home with patient humans and a doggie or 3 Chance is potty and crate trained will go happily into his crate when asked. He doesn’t do well on a leash, he will chew them and is not happy going on walks. A home with a safe fenced yard is required.

Story
Honey Bun is a one-year-old Basenji mix who weighs 33 pounds, and she is pure happiness from nose to tail. This sweet girl brings sunshine wherever she goes, greeting every new friend with enthusiasm and a joyful spirit that’s impossible to resist. She’s always ready to say hello, always ready to play, and always ready to turn an ordinary moment into something brighter. Honey Bun has a smile that can clear even the cloudiest day, and being around her feels like instant happiness. She walks nicely on a leash and would love nothing more than to head out on daily adventures with her people. With her vibrant energy and zest for life, she’ll thrive in an active home that can give her the exercise and engagement she needs. Honey Bun does best with dogs her size or larger, as she does not do well with smaller animals. A meet and greet at the shelter with any resident dogs will be required to help ensure it is a good fit for everyone. Honey Bun isn’t just energetic—she’s full of life in the most beautiful way. If you’re looking for a companion who will bring joy, movement, and nonstop smiles into your days, Honey Bun is ready to bounce right into your heart. ------ Before being rescued, many of our dogs had limited socialization, so they may need some time to adjust to life as a family pet. Older kids are often a great fit for our dogs, and homes with younger children will be considered based on each dog’s individual needs. Skills like house training and leash walking may take a little extra patience and practice. However, with understanding and a gentle hand, most of these dogs adapt quite quickly. Being a part of their rehabilitation is a truly rewarding experience. To learn more about mill dogs and start the adoption process, visit our website!
