Story
Panko needs a home with no kids and no dogs. He has not been tested with cats. He is bonded to his humom most and is generally more drawn to women. He is a bit of a cuddle bug, so he would do best with a female as his primary caregiver and snuggle buddy. Panko has been with his family his entire life. He's always been a bit of an anxious dog, which causes him to guard his precious resources. It has always been manageable by eliminating high value treats and giving him his own safe space to eat his meals. After bringing home their 1st child, Panko's anxiety has increased significantly, making his guarding worse. His family recognizes it's not good for him to live with this high level of stress all the time and have made the difficult decision to rehome him. He will need a foster/adopter who understands or is experienced with resource guarding. He is currently working with a highly skilled and experienced trainer and is making amazing progress with counter conditioning. Adopters MUST be willing to have multiple meet and greets with Panko and begin working on training prior to placement. Continued training after placement will also be a requirement. Panko is house trained and was crate trained as a puppy but hasn't used it in a long time. He's a well-behaved boy, and in a home with no kids or pets, would not have a reason to be crated. We have dog tested him and he may be able to have dog friends in the future but will still need to be an only dog. Panko is used to getting 2 walks a day, which helps with his anxiety, so he will need a family who is active. Panko is a very sweet social Shiba. He loves meeting new people and getting scratches! He will always remember a new friend and will give a tail wag and want to say hello when he bumps into them. He has lots of energy and never tires on his walks. He is used to having a yard and loves to roll in fresh green grass and his favorite game is biting at the water from the hose. Story
HIGHLIGHT: #### - May require another confident dog in the home to help build trust. Meet Rosco — a 6-year-old Shiba Inu weighing 31.5 pounds who is still learning that the world can be a kind and gentle place. Right now, Rosco is very fearful and unsure of human interaction. He is not yet ready for pets or close contact, but with time, patience, and the right environment, there is so much potential for this sweet boy to grow. Rosco finds comfort in the presence of other dogs and may benefit greatly from having a confident canine companion in the home to help guide him. A calm, consistent routine and a gentle approach will be key to helping him feel safe as he slowly adjusts to new surroundings and begins to trust. Despite his fears, Rosco has a quiet charm about him and deserves a home that will give him the time and space he needs. Watching him make progress—even the smallest step—will be a truly meaningful and rewarding experience. Before being rescued, many of our dogs had limited socialization, so they may need some time to adjust to life as a family pet. Older kids are often a great fit for our dogs, and homes with younger children will be considered based on each dog’s individual needs. Skills like house training and leash walking may take a little extra patience and practice. However, with time and a gentle approach, most of these dogs adapt quickly. Being a part of their rehabilitation is incredibly rewarding. To learn more about our dogs and start the adoption process, please visit our website.
