Story
Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our pets based on personality, not breed label. Shep is a 5-year-old, neutered male, perhaps Basenji-Husky mix. He is up to date on all of his vaccinations and Microchipped. Shep is most definitely not a Ridgeback. He has lived with Ridgebacks and is tolerant of their weirdness (at least weird to him). His bright blue eyes reflect a keen intelligence and a dash of mischief. Very high energy, strong curiosity and intense personality make for a dog that will never allow a dull moment in your life. Once he gets to know you, Shep is a very loving dog who is always ready for an ear scratch or belly rub. He can be overly protective of those people he considers his, especially when they are his source of treats and affection. Shep is quick to speak out in defense of his territory and all that he considers his. He needs an environment that provides structure and enforces limits on his enthusiasm without suppressing his spirit. If you like a challenge and a one-of-a-kind dog that will fill the time you give him with amusement, wonder and enrichment, as few other dogs could, then Shep is the dog for you. If you like to foster Shep or adopt him and provide a Forever Home for Shep, call or text Roy at 817-454-6023 or Miguel at 817-798-8416. Story
Meet Thelma! She is a 1yr old beautiful golden eyed female Staffordshire Bull/American Staffordshire Terrier mix that weighs 36lbs. She came into the shelter on 10/2 as a stray. Reviewing her pictures through dog scanner, stated there may also be cattle dog in the mix. No matter, she is a very sweet gentle loving pup. She can be shy initially, but given some time she becomes your BFF. She walks well on a leash, takes treats gently and maybe housetrained. She has been very well cared for as can be seen in her clean, soft fur. She loves to be petted and loved on, will give you kisses on your hand, and will sneak a kiss or two on your face. She didn`t show much interest in toys, and the squeaky ones seemed to frighten her. As other dogs were barking at her, she didn`t show any interest, as she wanted to go out into the yard to stretch her legs. While out in the yard she had a burst of the zoomies, with her ears up and a big smile on her face. She hopes to find her own loving family soon, a secured yard to play in, but definitely be an indoor pup as she is a great cuddlebug! You couldn`t ask for a more loyal loving companion!

Story
Foxy is a spayed female, 6-year-old, 33-pound Portuguese Podengo/Australian Kelpie mix who arrived at the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 2/25 as a stray. She’s a bit timid and will flinch at sudden movements, so a slow introduction is best. She spent a lot of time in the yard gazing out the gate and over the wall, likely searching for her owners. It takes her a little while to warm up to people, but she eventually gave me some kisses. Agile, alert, and cautiously friendly, she’s also incredibly sweet and well-mannered. She’s a great size and appears to have been well cared for. Her pointed ears and corkscrew tail add to her southern charm. She walks decently on a leash and would love to be an indoor dog so she can shower you with affection. She also has a soft spot for blankets.
