Story
Meet Thelma! She is a 1yr old beautiful golden eyed female Staffordshire Bull/American Staffordshire Terrier mix that weighs 36lbs. She came into the shelter on 10/2 as a stray. Reviewing her pictures through dog scanner, stated there may also be cattle dog in the mix. No matter, she is a very sweet gentle loving pup. She can be shy initially, but given some time she becomes your BFF. She walks well on a leash, takes treats gently and maybe housetrained. She has been very well cared for as can be seen in her clean, soft fur. She loves to be petted and loved on, will give you kisses on your hand, and will sneak a kiss or two on your face. She didn`t show much interest in toys, and the squeaky ones seemed to frighten her. As other dogs were barking at her, she didn`t show any interest, as she wanted to go out into the yard to stretch her legs. While out in the yard she had a burst of the zoomies, with her ears up and a big smile on her face. She hopes to find her own loving family soon, a secured yard to play in, but definitely be an indoor pup as she is a great cuddlebug! You couldn`t ask for a more loyal loving companion!

Story
Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our pets based on personality, not breed label. Shep is a 5-year-old, neutered male, perhaps Basenji-Husky mix. He is up to date on all of his vaccinations and Microchipped. Shep is most definitely not a Ridgeback. He has lived with Ridgebacks and is tolerant of their weirdness (at least weird to him). His bright blue eyes reflect a keen intelligence and a dash of mischief. Very high energy, strong curiosity and intense personality make for a dog that will never allow a dull moment in your life. Once he gets to know you, Shep is a very loving dog who is always ready for an ear scratch or belly rub. He can be overly protective of those people he considers his, especially when they are his source of treats and affection. Shep is quick to speak out in defense of his territory and all that he considers his. He needs an environment that provides structure and enforces limits on his enthusiasm without suppressing his spirit. If you like a challenge and a one-of-a-kind dog that will fill the time you give him with amusement, wonder and enrichment, as few other dogs could, then Shep is the dog for you. If you like to foster Shep or adopt him and provide a Forever Home for Shep, call or text Roy at 817-454-6023 or Miguel at 817-798-8416. Story
Meet Sebastian! He is a 2 yr old male mixed breed that weighs 69lbs. He is a very handsome boy and when using dog scanner it stated he may have a mix of Border Collie, Besenji, and Bull Terrier. He came into the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 10/27 as a stray. He has a majestic and regal look about him, but also a goofy side. With one ear up, long body and glossy coat he is a standout. He does need some manners training as he will jump on you, but with a sharp retort he was responsive. He also has his silly goofy side when it comes to toys. He would need to have strong rubber ones to play with. He does want to please and will sit for treats and take them gently. He didn’t show interest in other dogs, yet we do ask if there is another dog in the home to please ask the shelter for a dog test. He is rambunctious, enthusiastic, playful, fun loving, joyful, and friendly. He has a semi-strong pull on a leash. He will need a secured yard for his playtime but wants to spend time in the house, enjoying his new loving family.

Story
Meet Shrimp! Shrimp is an approximately 1.5 year old, 38 pound dog who is currently part of our Diamond Dog program, a designation given to pets who have been waiting for a home for more than 90 days. As of 05/30/26, Shrimp had been waiting 117 days to find his forever family. Shrimp came to Rockwall Adoption Center alongside his brother after their family was no longer able to care for them. While shelter life was difficult for him, Shrimp is now thriving in a foster home where he continues to build confidence and learn that the world can be a safe and happy place. Shrimp is a sweet, gentle, and dog friendly companion who is eager to form a meaningful bond with his person. He can be a little shy at first and will benefit from a patient, consistent family that can continue helping him grow. With time and understanding, Shrimp has the potential to become an incredibly loyal and loving companion. Because Shrimp is currently living in foster care, an approved adoption application is required prior to scheduling a meet and greet. Shrimp is neutered, microchipped, fully vaccinated, and heartworm negative. As a Diamond Dog, his adoption fee is just $75. If you are interested in giving Shrimp the forever home he deserves, please submit an adoption application at: https://rockwalladoptions.com/adoptfoster/adoption-application/ Once your application has been approved, RAC staff will coordinate a meet and greet with his foster family.  All animals, unless otherwise noted in their description, are at 1825 Airport Rd. in Rockwall, TX. Hours of operation are Monday-Friday 9 am to 6 pm and Saturdays 9 am to 5 pm. For questions, please call 972-771-7750 ext. 2 or email info@RockwallAdoptions.com. IMPORTANT NOTICE: All shelter animals are required by Texas state law to be spayed/neutered. RAC completes this procedure at the age of 12 weeks. If you are adopting a pet under the age of 12 weeks or an animal that has not yet been spayed or neutered, you will be required to return the pet to our facility on the agreed upon date set at the time of adoption. This policy is non-negotiable and violation of this health code is a criminal offense. June 17, 2026, 5:29 pm

Story
Diamond Dog Alert - Meet Gator Gator has officially been named a Diamond Dog. As of 06/15/26, he has been patiently waiting for 133 days for a family to call his own. Because of that, his adoption fee has been reduced to $75 to help him finally get the fresh start he deserves. Gator is an approximately 1.5-year-old Shiba Inu/Shepherd mix weighing around 40 pounds. He came to the Rockwall Adoption Center with his brother, Shrimp, after their family could no longer care for them. While that chapter of his life has closed, Gator is ready to begin a much brighter one. He is a friendly, social dog who enjoys being around people and does well with other dogs. Gator is still building confidence in new situations, but he continues to make steady progress every day. He is currently working on leash training and improving with consistency and positive reinforcement. With patience and guidance, Gator has all the potential to grow into a loyal, confident, and well-rounded companion. Gator is neutered, microchipped, current on rabies and DHLPP vaccinations, and heartworm negative. If you are looking for a sweet dog you can help grow and thrive, Gator may be the perfect fit. Apply to adopt Gator at https://rockwalladoptions.com/adoptfoster/adoption-application/ . Gator has been waiting and is ready to take the next step with the right family.
