Story
Toast, who is male Basenji mix, has been patiently waiting for his forever family while so many other dogs have come and gone. Every day he wakes up hopeful that today might be the day someone chooses him. Unfortunately, that day hasn’t come yet. The truth is, Toast is an incredible dog. Toast is approx two years old, fully vetted, which means he has been neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested, microchipped, and is current on all preventatives. He weighs about 45 pounds. Extremely well mannered and knows several commands. He is also housebroken and crate trained, making him ready to transition into a loving home. Toast gets along well with other dogs and children, but because of his enthusiasm and energy, he would do best in a home where family members are steady and firm on their feet. He is an active young dog who needs daily walks, exercise, and a securely fenced yard where he can run and play. And when we say run, we mean RUN! 🏃‍♂️💨 Toast is quite literally one of the fastest dogs we have ever seen. Watching him stretch his legs across the yard is truly something to behold. He absolutely loves car rides, adventures, and spending time with his foster brothers and sisters. Because he enjoys canine companionship so much, a home with another friendly dog would be ideal for him. Despite all of these wonderful qualities, Toast continues to wait. He doesn’t know that his adoption fee has been lowered. He doesn’t know that we’re sharing his story again in hopes that the right person or family will see it. He only knows that every day he has so much love to give and no family of his own to give it to. Please help us change that. Story
Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our pets based on personality, not breed label. Shep is a 7-year-old, neutered male, perhaps Basenji-Husky mix. He is up to date on all of his vaccinations and Microchipped. Shep is most definitely not a Ridgeback. He has lived with Ridgebacks and is tolerant of their weirdness (at least weird to him). His bright blue eyes reflect a keen intelligence and a dash of mischief. Very high energy, strong curiosity and intense personality make for a dog that will never allow a dull moment in your life. Once he gets to know you, Shep is a very loving dog who is always ready for an ear scratch or belly rub. He can be overly protective of those people he considers his, especially when they are his source of treats and affection. Shep is quick to speak out in defense of his territory and all that he considers his. He needs an environment that provides structure and enforces limits on his enthusiasm without suppressing his spirit. If you like a challenge and a one-of-a-kind dog that will fill the time you give him with amusement, wonder and enrichment, as few other dogs could, then Shep is the dog for you. Dezi carries himself with a superior demeanor! He has a strong confident yet friendly personality! Dezi is an eight month old 28 pound bronze/copper colored Sheba Inu that was brought into the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 9/14 as a stray. Dezi has stand-up ears, a stand-up tail and dark eyes that set off his beautiful coloring. He resembles a small fox. He alert and highly athletic. At the same time he was friendly, he was also somewhat quirky and aloof. He’s a happy fellow. He sits for treats and takes them gently. He did his business as soon as he got out into the yard. He walks very well on a leash. After his walk, he wants to enjoy family time under the AC.

This very handsome youngster is Remy, a 26 pound about 4 months of age pup. He was picked up by a member of the public on 6/8 as a stray and brought to the Mesquite Shelter. I ran his pictures through my Dog Scanner and it suggested the Carolina Dog breed. You will note he chose a scarf indicating his patriotism with the upcoming 250th anniversary of America. He hopes to spend July 4 in his new home with a rescue foster. He is RESCUE ONLY due to an injury he had upon arriving the shelter. He is in perfect health, other than having a proximal radial fracture and a distal ulna fracture. He was taken to the vet for an exam and a full report can be obtained from the shelter. Vet recommended cage rest, pain management, and that an orthopedic surgeon be consulted. This is absolutely essential as he will need to have his injured leg looked at to see what needs to be done. He mostly just dangles his front right leg, but sometimes puts a bit of pressure on it. He walks on a leash. Remy is very lively, he is a jumper and climber and has lots of normal puppy energy. He is friendly and A-OK with being petted and loved on. This youngster is definitely worth the save and we are hoping someone will see his pictures, evaluation and video and step forward to tag and assist in getting his leg fixed.
