Story
One blue eye, one brown eye, Husky fur and coloring with a Basset Hound body. Look at my front legs…you won’t find another dog looking like me! I have a great smile and if you talk to me, I’m always all ears. Look at my face, always perfect when they want to take a picture of me. I also sit nicely for a treat. Best feature is of course my sweet personality, ready to make new friends and hopefully find a family this way.

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Gretel, a soulful Basset mix born on February 20, 2020. At six years old, she has perfected the art of being a relaxed, well-mannered house companion. Gretel is a professional lounger who is fully potty trained and knows exactly how to behave indoors. While she was adopted as a puppy, she recently returned to us after a misunderstanding with a small child. Because of this, Gretel is looking for an adult-only home where she can be the center of your world. She’s a "people person" who prefers to be your one-and-only pet—no other dogs needed when she has you! If you’re looking for a loyal, low-maintenance best friend to keep your sofa warm, Gretel is your girl. Story
About Me: Name: Bodie Breed (or best guess): Possibly Border Collie/Basset Approximate Age: 11 yr Gender: Male Approximate Weight: 30 lb Adoption Fee: $495 Requirements: Loving family, only dog  Why In Rescue: Owner Surrender Profile:   Bodie lost his home due to his owner's health.  He is a happy, loving guy who would prefer to be the only dog.  He enjoys walks with the volunteers.  He is an older guy who appreciates gentle touches.  Because of his age, we feel he would be happiest with no children or only older children in the home.  He will be getting a dental and senior bloodwork prior to being adopted, but you can apply for him now.  He is looking forward to being part of a family again.  If interested in this nice boy, please fill out the pre-adoption application. We do put the needs of the dog's first, so it is nothing personal if we determine a particular dog isn't suitable for your specific home and living situation. If interested in adoption, the first step is filling out the pre-adoption application at http://www.bichonrescues.com/pre-adoption-form-dog  If link isn't clickable, please copy/paste or visit http://www.bichonrescues.com.  Please note, filling out inquiry forms on Petfinder or Adoptapet and/or their application forms does not constitute an application for one of our dogs.  Priority in responding to inquires and applications is always to the applications filled out on our website, time constraints limit the number of other inquires we can reply to. We do our best to evaluate the dogs while they are with us, but they sometimes act different in the shelter environment than they do in a home.  Many times we do not know the actual breed/mix or age of the dog, in that case we use our best guess as to breed and age.   We are located in Mukwonago, WI.  Adopters must come to us, we do not ship our dogs.  Please do not apply for a dog until you are ready to adopt.  Once an application is approved you will be notified by email to make an appointment to meet the dog.  All dogs are seen by appointment only. The adoption fee through Bichon and Little Buddies Rescue is $495 for most adults and up to $650 for puppies which includes Wi State Sales Tax.  Included in this fee is your new companion who will be spayed/neutered, have a current Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (as required by state law), current on age appropriate vaccinations, heartworm tested (if old enough) and started on preventative, microchipped, and given a general wormer.  Other medical needs will also have been taken care of, such as dentals and treating ear infections.  To assist you and your new pet in adjusting to life together, you may chose to take an 8 week age appropriate obedience training course at For Pet's Sake Dog Training in Mukwonago, WI for $100 (up to $260 value).  You may opt to take Puppy Kindergarten, Adult Beginners, or Small Dogs Big Hearts.  You must register for the class within 90 days of adoption for the reduced fee.  For more information on the classes visit www.forpetssake.cc  More important information: ***We are a Wisconsin based rescue and do not ship our pets.  If you are considering adoption you must be willing to drive to meet and adopt the pet, as well as bring the pet back to us if the adoption doesn't work.  We adopt primarily in WI and IL, but will consider applicants in MN, IA, and MI.*** ***Please do not set up an appointment to meet the animals until you are ready to take your pet home.  If the meeting results in a match, you can often take the dog/cat home the same day or within a couple days if the medical care hasn't been completed.  We are not able to hold pets for adopters beyond this time.  Thanks for understanding.*** ***While we hope all of our adoptions lead to permanent homes for the animals we place, sometimes things just don't work out.  We do have a 30 day trial period.  For the first 30 days, if you or Bichon and Little Buddies decide that the adoption isn't a good match for either the humans or the pet, the adoption fee will be refunded minus $100 within 30 days of the return of the dog.  Bichon and Little Buddies also requires adopters to return the pet to us at any time that they are unable or unwilling to care for the animal anymore.*** ***We do not show dogs without an appointment.  The first step in adoption is filling out the pre-adoption application at http://www.bichonrescues.com/pre-adoption-form-dog  Please do not call/email until AFTER you have filled out an application.*** Bichon and Little Buddies is a State Licensed Rescue # 268555-DS June 14, 2026, 6:35 pm

Story
Bella is a 2-year-old, 24-pound spayed mixed-breed sweetheart who has finished raising her puppies and is finally ready for something that's all about her—a forever family of her own! This adorable low rider is bursting with personality and charm. If there’s a tennis ball nearby, Bella is ready for action! Fetch is one of her favorite activities, and a fenced yard where she can run, play, and chase toys would be her dream come true. Bella is equal parts playful and cuddly. She absolutely loves toys and takes great pride in "redecorating" them by enthusiastically removing their stuffing. After a hard day's work of toy destruction and ball chasing, she's more than happy to curl up next to her favorite people for a cozy nap. When bedtime arrives, Bella prefers to be close to her family. Her favorite spot is at your feet in bed, but she's also perfectly content snoozing in her own bed nearby. Bella gets along well with other dogs and has been wonderful with children. Because she loves toys so much, she may occasionally assume that children's toys belong to her too, so little ones may need a reminder to keep their special treasures picked up. While she's not a fan of being confined in a closed crate, Bella does enjoy relaxing in an open crate when she chooses. She's trustworthy when left home alone and has been respectful of her foster family's belongings. Bella's ideal home is one that appreciates her playful spirit, loving heart, and desire to be part of the action. Whether she's chasing a ball, supervising daily activities, or snuggling up for movie night, Bella simply wants to be where her people are. If you're looking for a loyal companion with a big personality, a playful streak, and endless love to give, Bella may be the perfect addition to your family. Our standard adoption fee is $465. We offer a $15 discount for adopters who pay by cash or check, making the adoption fee $450. The adoption fee includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at one of our participating veterinarians, age-appropriate core vaccinations, fecal test, deworming, current on flea and tick preventative, and microchip. To ensure the best match for both our dogs and adopters, we require a fully completed adoption application, a phone interview, and a meet-and-greet with the entire household. Applications will not be reviewed unless fully completed. Submitting an application does not guarantee adoption and does not obligate you to adopt; it simply allows us to begin the review process. To request an application or for additional details, please email adopt@safehavendogsIL.org Please note that the breeds and sizes posted in this biography are educated best guesses and are not guaranteed.
