Story
Sir Edward is a 6 year old gentleman with a tender heart and a quiet strength. He was found alone on a very rural road, scared and confused, until a kind person stopped to help him. Sir Edward enjoys calm companionship and has a gentle presence that makes him easy to love. He does have ongoing ear issues that will require a total ear ablation surgery, which can not be performed here at the shelter. What he truly needs now is someone willing to see past his medical needs and give him the chance he deserves. If you`re able to open your heart and help Sir Edward continue his journey toward comfort and happiness, please reach out. He`s ready for his next chapter, one filled with safety, love and hope.

Dog would jump and back away when there was loud noises. Dog approached handler and allowed pets, but would back away to fast movements. Able to complete handling. Dog did not react to other dogs while in the play yard. No issues when placing back in kennel. Needs rescue due being fearful in the shelter environment.

Story
Meet Winslow, the beagle mix! Winslow arrived to the Shelter after his previous guardian was unable to continue caring for him. Winslow may not look like a beagle upon first glance but he sure bays like a beagle when he is in the mood to chat. He enjoys going for little walks around the shelter grounds to get his sniffari time in. Staff have had Winslow interact with two other small breed dogs where he sniffed and coexisted. A home with another dog may be a fit in his next home. We do not have any history of Winslow with children or cats. Winslow is recovering from an old injury. His next family will need to be mindful of his healing process as he transitions to the new home – which our clinic team is more than happy to chat about with you when you come to meet!Winslow finds the Shelter environment a bit stressful and sometimes barks at new people and things that spook him. This behavior may be heightened in the Shelter environment (which can be a bit inherently stressful due to the layout, strangers constantly walking through, etc) but also could occur in a home environment. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Story
Looks like: Terrier, Lab mix Male, 10 years old (estimated), 23 pounds Charming Wilson is a senior dog with a heart as golden as his years. His personality shines with friendliness and a gentle mellow nature that will win you over. He's a bit slow moving and has some vision impairment, but don't let that fool you! This gent can spot a treat from a mile away! He gets along great with other dogs of all shapes and sizes and would enjoy a nice toddle around the house or a safe yard. Wilson joined us from Contra Costa Animal Services. His guardians were homeless and came to realize they could not provide Wilson with the care he needed in his advancing age.
