Adoption fee: $250 Narwhal & Beluga — The Water Puppies Age: 12–14 weeks old | Weight: About 7 lbs each Ready to make a splash? Meet Narwhal and Beluga, two of the four Water puppies rescued from a shelter! These little loves are serving up waves of puppy kisses, bouncy play sessions, and sleepy snuggles. Currently about 7 pounds each, they’re expected to stay small—but their personalities are already making quite an impression. Their family tree is a bit of an underwater mystery. Some of the Water puppies are fluffy and others have smoother coats, so there may be more than one dad represented in this adorable crew. Whatever their ancestry, these two have sweetness down to a science. Two Little Personalities to Love Both puppies are affectionate, people-loving little companions who want to be part of the fun. They love children, enjoy attention, and happily follow their foster dad around while he works in the yard. Every backyard project is apparently better with a tiny assistant—or two. Narwhal is the more devoted little shadow. This attention-loving sweetheart especially enjoys being near people and checking in for a little extra love. If you’re looking for a puppy who thinks your everyday activities are worthy of an enthusiastic audience, Narwhal is ready for the job. Beluga has a slightly more independent streak. Still very loving and delighted by human company, Beluga is simply a little more comfortable doing some exploring without quite as many check-ins. There’s plenty of affection here, along with a little “I’ve got this!” confidence. Play First, Snuggle Later Their daily agenda is straightforward: wake up, play, eat, sleep, repeat. Mornings are for wiggling, bouncing, and investigating everything that happened while they were asleep. Holding still in someone’s arms? They’ll get back to you once they’ve completed their important puppy business. After a good play session, however, their cuddly sides take over. Once those little batteries run low, they’re happy to settle in for affection and a well-earned nap. They have plenty of puppy energy, balanced by plenty of puppy sleep. Together, they enjoy enthusiastic wrestling and racing games, tumbling into one another before bouncing right back into the action. Their adopters can look forward to lots of entertaining play—and will want to provide safe spaces for all that youthful enthusiasm. Learning the Ropes Narwhal and Beluga are smart, eager to please, and quick to learn. They’re familiar with potty pads, although their aim and consistency are still works in progress. A steady routine and patient encouragement will help each puppy build good habits. They’ve also been doing well overnight in their foster home and can make it through the night in their pen. When their people go out, they settle in a pen without crying, then greet the family’s return with plenty of excitement. Their foster hasn’t heard them bark yet, and digging hasn’t appeared on their activity list. Chewing, however, is very much on the menu! These teething puppies will need plenty of appropriate chew toys and gentle redirection as they learn what belongs in their mouths. Leash walking is another skill for their future families to introduce. Their Forever Homes Each puppy would love a family ready for playtime, training, and plenty of affection. They’ve been wonderful with children in their foster home, and a home with kids or a compatible resident dog could be a lovely fit. They’ll also appreciate people who look forward to walks and adventures as they grow. A Special Note about Beluga: Beluga has a grade 5/6 heart murmur and thus has not yet been neutered. This is a condition that puppies often grow out of, though that is unknown. His adopters will need to decide the best course of action with their veterinarian. His adoption fee has been reduced to reflect this. Whether you fall for Narwhal’s devoted little shadow act or Beluga’s affectionate independence, there’s a whole lot of love waiting in a very small package.
