Story
Meet Rick! Woof! Rick is my name and being the best boy is my game! I recently came to HAP when my last family couldn't keep me any longer but everyone's been telling me that another perfect family will come along really soon! I really hope so because I'm the best boy around! I love to go on walks, play with my toys - especially the squeaky ones, and make new friends. I've made so many new friends both on four legs and on two! The humans love to hold me like a little baby and I tell them thanks by giving them lots of kisses. I also really love to learn new tricks because I'm really smart and I always get yummy treats when I listen! I mean who doesn't love treats am I right!? All the people here have been telling me about a furever home where you have a family and they give you lots of love and toys and sometimes they'll even share bites of their human food! That sounds like the best thing ever!!! So stop by today and meet me so I can show you that I'm exactly what you've been looking for! Puppies require a significant amount of structure, routine, time, patience, and training to learn how to behave properly in a home. The first few months of having a puppy is a critical time to establish boundaries and help your puppy understand what they can expect from you and what you expect from them. Remember, puppies aren’t born knowing how to live in a human’s world, it is up to you to teach them how to make good decisions in a positive and caring manner. The more positive interactions they have in their first year of life will set them up for better behavior in the future. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.

Story
Watkins Glen here, but you can just call me....Watkins! Here's me...⭐️ I'm very smart ⭐️ I'm a Good Walker, once I get to know you. ⭐️ Petite size 21 pounds.⭐️ I'm not dog reactive. Meet and greets are required to determine sibling compatibility. ⭐️ I have a very gentle spirit once we are friends. I am a small fry and need to look out for #1. I have some walls up to protect myself. Once out of turn 2, cruise control, all good. I like to participate in a variety of activities, including exploring hiking trails, I also enjoy the Lakes, ponds, or parks...but maybe not Watkins Glen International speedway.... Too loud for me! I'm up for anything that will give my nose a tingle and my tail a wag. I like my nose to the ground and I do my Sweet little prancey dance! I'm happy in the outdoors. Now let's get real. I'm not super confident. I need a minute to warm up to new people. 🟡Please go slow with me. But one walk in ...we be best buds. I'm not a roll in the grass ...jump in your lap super hero right away. I'm not big on hands coming right for me. Whoa ...pump the brakes! I need to check your references first and give your resume a look. Kids ? Ummm❌Not right now thanks.❌No large groups....Nope. Too much for me! What I like is:✅a quiet home. ✅a few people on my race team that I've interviewed andI'm good with and they passed the chill-o-meter test. They say the 3-3-3 deal is just right for me..3 days to settle and figure where I am.3 weeks to learn my new routine.3 months to feel at home. Time is what I need and we be fine!! Story
Shrek is about 3 years old, smells better than he did when he came in, and is figuring things out one treat at a time.He came in as a stray with his buddy Donkey after what looked like an unapproved swamp adventure. They were filthy, stinky, and clearly living the outdoor kennel life. No manners. No training. No clue.Shrek is a blank slate. He doesn’t sit. He doesn’t stay. He doesn’t know what you’re talking about—but he’s trying. He’s food-motivated, people-loving, and will climb into your lap like a 25-pound toddler in a dog suit. He’s got that classic beagle brain: nose-first, logic later. Walks take a while. Every smell is important. He’d do best with a confident dog in the home to show him how to dog. He learns fast when he’s got someone to copy.Adopt Shrek. He won’t rescue a princess, but he’ll make your couch smell like Fritos and love you for life.

Story
Donkey is about 1 year old and slightly more put-together than his buddy, Shrek—but not by much. They came in together as filthy, stinky strays after a swamp-level adventure. Probably kept as outdoor hunting dogs. Donkey smells better now and is working hard on the “how to be a pet” crash course. He’s a little more confident than Shrek, but still figuring things out. He doesn’t know much yet, but he’s eager to please and deeply committed to snack-based learning. He loves people. He wants to be where you are. On you, if possible. He follows his nose like a proper beagle, so walks are less of a stroll and more of a smell tour. Donkey would do well in a home with another friendly dog to help him build confidence and routine.Adopt Donkey. He’s sweet, scruffy, and ready to trade swamp life for couch life.
