Meet Buddy Almost Home Foster Kennels, MN Lic. 132328 is a 501c3, not-for-profit, foster-based, rescue organization. AHFK is located in SE Minnesota in the Austin/Albert Lea area. AHFK is primarily a Beagle and small dog rescue. Our focus is to pull from High-Kill Shelters and to save those dogs that are at risk of euthanasia. All AHFK adoptions require an approved, completed application, a Veterinarian and Personal Reference Check, a smoke-free environment, and a home visit. Buddy's adoption fee is $300.00 All our dogs are completely vetted, spayed/neutered, and microchipped. We are currently accepting applications for Buddy. Buddy was surrendered to a Veterinary clinic in the Tulsa OK area. His owner had moved, out of country, and left Buddy with family members. The family did not want Buddy and surrendered him for euthanasia. The veterinary staff could not euthanize Buddy and kept him in a crate until they could find a rescue or adopter. Buddy lived in this crate for 40 days. Buddy needs a securely fenced yard as he loves to visit nearby neighbors and confiscate articles of property that do not belong to him. Buddy needs a human that will have time, patience, and love for him. He has been neglected and allowed to roam freely. He needs a routine and structure. He loves to be outside and thoroughly enjoys leash walking. Buddy shows some issues with resource guarding with other dogs. He has been through training and his new owner will have to carry through with positive reinforcement. We have not had an issue with guarding against humans. Buddy is of the Beagle breed, a natural hunter, therefore, we are looking for a home with a securely fenced yard and a family with one Pet Parent that is a stay-at-home parent, or one which works from home; a family that can help Buddy acclimate to her new surroundings and environment with compassion, love, and patience. Please allow 6-8 weeks for Buddy to acclimate to the changes in his life. We would also like Buddy to be the only dog. Meet and greets are scheduled upon approved, completed application. If interested in meeting Buddy, please complete the application found on our website: almosthomefoster.com

Story
Our sweet 12-year-old beagle is still on the hunt for her forever home — preferably one with fewer roommates than our current situation (six dogs is apparently too many to be the center of attention). She’s an easy keeper who runs on love, snacks, and proximity to humans. Bedtime is her favorite sport — she will happily curl up next to you and sleep straight through the night… unless she decides she’s not getting her way, in which case you’ll hear her signature “tiny whine of injustice.” Cute at noon, slightly less magical at 2 a.m. When she gets the zoomies, you’ll be treated to full-volume hound commentary. Otherwise, she’s pretty quiet and saves her voice for special occasions only. Mostly, she’s just the sweetest, snuggliest girl who wants nothing more than to be your shadow and soak up all the love she can get. Honestly? She’s a 10/10 good girl who deserves to be someone’s whole world. Photo background is AI generated

Story
Cyrus is a young beagle, probably around one to two years old, who is slowly learning what life as a loved family dog looks like. Before rescue, he was used as a breeding test lab dog and spent the first part of his life living in a wire crate with very little human interaction. Because of that, the world still feels pretty new and overwhelming to him at times. Despite his past, Cyrus has been making steady progress and continues to surprise us in the best ways. He is still cautious with people and tends to keep his distance most of the time, which is completely understandable given what he has been through. But little by little, his curiosity is growing. Every now and then he will come over for pets or quietly choose to stay nearby, and those small moments feel huge for him. What Cyrus does know how to do is be a puppy. He loves toys, gets excited to play with other dogs, and has a goofy, youthful side that really comes out once he feels comfortable. Having other dogs around helps him a lot, and he enjoys following their lead and learning from them. Cyrus will need a patient, understanding family that is willing to meet him where he is and continue helping him build confidence at his own pace. He is not the kind of dog who will adjust overnight, but he is absolutely worth the time and care. Watching him slowly discover safety, comfort, and trust has been incredibly rewarding, and we believe he still has so much growth ahead of him. He may not be ready to fully embrace people yet, but he is trying, and that effort is something really special to see. We ask that his forever home have a dog sibling that will help him feel safe and to play with. He will also need a fenced-in yard to give him a safe space to play. Adoption fee is $350+ tax; please apply at www.campcompanion.org

Story
Meet Phoenix ❤️ There are dogs who arrive in rescue already open to the world… and then there are dogs like Phoenix—dogs who have to learn it, piece by piece, as if for the very first time. Phoenix was one of the Wisconsin Ridglan Beagles. He came from a breeding and testing environment and arrived into rescue through a rescue partner, Big Dog Ranch Rescue (BDRR). He is one of those rare dogs who doesn’t simply enter rescue… he unfolds within it. Everything about Phoenix is becoming. When he first arrived in foster care, the world felt enormous, unfamiliar, and overwhelming. Nothing about life made sense yet. Simple things most dogs never think twice about were brand new, uncertain, and sometimes frightening. Now, that same world is beginning to soften at the edges. Each day brings a little more understanding, a little more trust, and a little more light breaking through what used to feel unknown. He is a young beagle who is learning—moment by moment—that life can be safe… and that he is allowed to belong in it. Phoenix absolutely adores other dogs and draws his sense of safety, confidence, and direction from them. They are his anchor in a world that still feels big and confusing at times—showing him how to move, how to settle, how to play, and how to simply exist without worry. Because of this, Phoenix must go to a home with at least one other friendly, well-adjusted dog. He does not just benefit from other dogs—he relies on them to help him feel secure, and in their presence, he continues to open in ways that are slow, steady, and deeply meaningful. In many ways, Phoenix is still learning what life inside a home even means. Everything is fascinating—remotes, shoes, blankets, pillows—ordinary objects that are still new enough to be explored, tested, and investigated. This is not misbehavior. It is a dog who never had the chance to learn how to live in a home now trying, with gentle curiosity, to understand the world around him. His future family will need patience, consistency, and a willingness to guide him through things most dogs already know. And then there are the quiet moments that stay with you. Phoenix is beginning to understand comfort. He will climb onto the couch, curl into soft spaces, and rest as though he is slowly realizing he is safe enough to stay. He watches the world from windows and curtains—not in fear, but with growing curiosity, like he is starting to trust that life outside his immediate understanding is not something to worry about. These are small moments, but for him, they are everything. Outside, Phoenix comes alive in a way that feels almost like watching relief take shape. He runs, plays, engages gently with other dogs, and moves through the yard with bursts of joy that feel honest and unguarded. What may once have been overwhelming is now becoming something he can enjoy. It is in these moments that you see it most clearly—this is a dog who is learning what freedom feels like. But Phoenix is not a “ready-made” dog. His progress is real, but it is still in motion. He is working on potty training and requires close supervision to keep him safe and prevent him from picking up inappropriate items. Even in a securely fenced yard, he wears a leash so he can continue learning guidance, structure, and trust. These are not quick fixes for him—they are daily, patient lessons. Every step forward is earned. And the same is true for trust. Like many dogs from severely limited early lives, Phoenix is still learning that people can be safe. He is beginning to seek gentle affection, to come onto the couch for quiet connection, and to allow handling in small, growing ways. None of this is instant. It is slow, careful progress built on repetition, kindness, and time. What he offers is not immediate affection—but something deeper: the beginning of it. Phoenix is neutered, learning household routines, and continuing to build confidence through positive reinforcement. He will need structure, patience, leash work, and a family willing to meet him where he is—not where they hope he already was. Like most beagles, he has a strong, expressive voice and is not suited for apartment living or homes with shared walls. Because he is still building confidence and not yet fully leash trained, Phoenix requires a secure, above-ground, fenced yard. Underground or electric fences are not appropriate for him, as fear can override training in uncertain moments. A physical fence is what allows him to remain safe enough to explore and grow at his own pace. What Phoenix needs most is not perfection. It is understanding. It is patience on the hard days, not just the easy ones. It is another dog to steady him when the world feels big. It is someone who doesn’t expect instant trust—but is willing to earn it slowly, in quiet moments that don’t always look like progress until suddenly they do. Because Phoenix is not going to be the easiest dog. But he may be one of the most meaningful. And one day—after all the small steps, the patient repetition, and the quiet building of trust—he won’t feel like a dog learning how to be safe anymore. He will simply feel like a dog who is home. And in return, Phoenix offers something rare: the deeply moving experience of watching a dog learn, piece by piece, that he is safe… and wanted… and finally allowed to stay. With time, kindness, and steady companionship, Phoenix will continue becoming exactly who he was always meant to be. ⸻ Apply at: www.campcompanion.org Adoption fee: $350 + tax (approx. $378.44 total) Accepted payment: credit or debit card

Story
Zephyr came from the Ridglan Farms breeding facility, where he spent the beginning of his life without the normal experiences most dogs grow up with. Everything about being a family dog is still fairly new to him, and like many dogs from these situations, his progress comes with a mix of good days and harder days. But overall, he is doing well and continues to learn more about the world around him every day. Around here, we jokingly call Zephyr “the old guy.” Compared to some of the younger puppies in foster care, he just carries himself like he has seen a little more of life. He is a bit more thoughtful, a little more independent, and more sure of himself in certain ways. We cannot confidently guess his exact age, but he still has plenty of playful energy and curiosity. One of the biggest bright spots for Zephyr has been other dogs. He has especially bonded with our foster puppy, Faby, and the two quickly became best friends. Watching him relax and play alongside another dog has been really sweet to see. So we would like to see him adopted to a place where he will have another dog living with him. Zephyr is still very nervous around people and has not fully adjusted to living inside a home yet. He tends to keep his distance and prefers moving at his own pace, which is understandable given his background. He will need a patient family that can give him time, consistency, and space to continue building confidence. His favorite place by far is the backyard. Outside is where his goofy personality really starts to shine. One of Zephyr’s favorite activities is rolling around in the grass, completely content just laying under the open sky. If you look outside and see a beagle happily wriggling around in the yard for no reason at all, it is probably him. To help him continue this favorite pastime in a safe structure, we ask that his new home has a fenced-in yard. Zephyr may still be figuring out people and home life, but there is something really special about watching him slowly settle in and discover simple joys for the very first time. Adoption fee is $350+ tax; please apply at www.campcompanion.org
