Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Name: Theo Age: 1 year old Breed: Beagle mix (with a mystery small breed twist) Background: Theo came from a hoarding situation and is still learning what it means to feel safe, loved, and free.   Personality: A beautiful mix of conflicted emotions—Theo wants love but doesn’t always know how to accept it. He may run from your touch but will still long for your presence. He’s a work in progress with a big heart in a small frame.   Needs:   A calm, patient home that understands decompression takes time. Another confident, friendly dog (or more!)—he thrives with canine companionship. Space to retreat, observe, and come forward on his terms. A gentle, steady person who won’t take his fear personally.     Quirks: Theo may act like he is scared of you, then follow you around with quiet longing. He loves cats and dogs and needs them as emotional anchors. He’s soft, sweet, and sensitive—but guarded.   Ideal Home: One with other animals, no pressure, and lots of time. Theo has love to give, but it’s layered beneath fear. He’s not broken—just healing.   Fun Fact: He’s a master at the slow blink of trust—when it happens, it’s pure gold. $300 adoption fee   You MUST have patience with Mr. Theo. There’s great guy behind those amazing ears and hopeful eyes. MUST have another dog. Must have a completed and approved app. HHPR.rescuegroups.org  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.June 4, 2025, 10:11 am

Story
Friends of ours found Arie about a month ago and were unable to keep her so we took her in. She is not microchipped, and we have exhausted our resources to find her family. When she was found, Arie had raw paws that had become infected and was infested with fleas. She was taken to the vet, and has been through a round of antibiotics and pain meds. She has also been treated for fleas and no longer has them. The vet estimated she is around 5 or 6 years old and is in perfect health, now that her paws have healed. Arie is working on house training and is doing well so far! She will have accidents if not taken out often enough and has learned “no”. She seems to have been an outside dog and has no other manners. Arie is food/treat aggressive. She is also aggressive towards cats. Arie is quite literally the sweetest dog and loves all people, of all ages. She’s very calm and loves chew toys!
