Story
Dr. Seuss was a stray who was rescued from a high kill shelter in Texas. He traveled to his foster home in Virginia on Jan. 14, 2023. He is heartworm positive and will be treated at SSR's expense. He also needs to be neutered. See videos and photos of Dr. Seuss on this page showing his cute stature as well as his relationship with his foster sibling and with a cat. (For reference when viewing photos/videos, Dr. Seuss is 30 pounds, his foster German Shepherd foster sibling is 65 pounds.) "Is he cat-friendly?" Not sure, but you can check out the video of his cat test. *From Dr. Seuss's foster: When Dr. Seuss arrived to us in Virginia, he was taking medication for two infections which caused bloody discharge and frequent bathroom breaks (he had to wear diapers for about 10 days because of accidents in the house) but that is completely cleared up. He is house trained but while healing he needs to go out at least every 4-6 hours. Also, if he has to go, he will walk to the door and look at you so that you know he needs to go! He is great in the crate - quiet as a mouse. We are teaching him to take treats nicely (right now he likes to grab at the treat), and he likes to play with toys but if they are not strong toys they will be destroyed. Every now and then he likes to chew on socks, so we keep a few "chewable" socks lying around for he and his foster sibling, the resident GSD. Dr. Seuss is OK on the leash and likes to sniff around but he doesn't know "heel." Since he's only 30 pounds, he's very easy to "steer" and will go with wherever you lead him. He has an adorable pep in his step. He  doesn't bark, but true to the breed he has an amazing BAY! We have only heard him bay twice since we have had him - once when he first saw his German Shepherd foster sibling (but we wouldn't introduce them yet because he was still decompressing upon arrival), and once on a walk when he saw a poodle that we wouldn't let him meet. Dr. Seuss does like to greet other dogs on walks but he's fine when we steer him away as well. He'll allow us to touch him anywhere, even if he's eating or drinking. We can check him and open his mouth and dry him off after a rainy walk. Dr. Seuss loves attention and belly rubs and would probably do best with another dog who doesn't mind sharing or even as an only dog. He does fine with the resident GSD and even though he is half her size, he can boss her around by taking her food and water and toys and  bed. If he’s bored, he will look around for hairballs to eat so we try to keep him active. He likes to walk outside to burn off energy and also pitter patter around the house for about an hour then likes to nap. He really loves to sit quietly by his human for pets – that’s his favorite thing! Story
Meet Tripp and Forrest, 3 1/2-month-old mixes of Beagle and Lab! What sweet brother love they have for each other, other dogs, people, and cats! These boys weigh about forty. now and should mature to around 40 pounds. Both boys’ coats are medium length; Tripp’s is blond and white while Forrest’s colors are tan and white! These two sweeties love to play with toys and run around in the yard. They are learning to go for leash walks and should catch on rather quickly.  Adopt one of these sweet boys before you miss your chance on furever happiness! (ME, 5/7/23) **It is rare that we know with certainty the ages or mixes that make up our dogs, but we do our best to be as accurate as possible based upon our experience. ** Adoption: $375 which covers quarantine, shots, worming, medical records, spaying/neutering, microchip and an Alabama State Health Certificate.   Transport, if needed  $160   We consider the transport to be of great importance and, as such, take particular care of the dogs during the trip . We make every effort to arrive with healthy and minimally stressed dogs.  June 3, 2023, 6:26 pm

Story
ADOPTION PENDING Spayed/Neutered: Yes Date of Birth: 06/03/2022 Weight: 25 lbs Polly is an incredibly sweet girl with a playful puppy spirit! Although she's young she's got a pretty laidback personality, and even when she has the zoomies, it's slow because she's not a very fast runner. She gets an A for effort and cuteness though! She likes to entertain herself with sticks when she's in our yard, and although we have introduced her to toys, she's not quite sure what to do with them yet. We can't wait for her to figure it out, she deserves to be spoiled! Polly didn't have an easy start to life. She was found as a stray by one of our shelter partners and no one claimed her. So we don't know if she ever had a home or if she was a stray her whole life. Despite this, she is the friendliest girl who just wants to give you kisses and be loved. Does Polly sound like the missing piece to your family puzzle? If so, fill out an adoption application on our website.
