Story
-KNOWN WITH DOGS: Zelda does not do well with other dogs -KNOWN WITH CATS: Zelda would not do well with a cat household -KNOWN WITH KIDS: Zelda would do best in a adult home due to her needs -KNOWN HOUSEBREAKING AND/OR CRATING: Zelda is housetrained! ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: Meet Zelda – A Smart, Affectionate, and Active 4-Year-Old Companion Are you looking for a loyal, clever, and loving dog? Zelda, a beautiful German Shepherd mix estimated to be 4 years old and weighing 54 lbs, is searching for her new forever home. Her current family is heartbreakingly looking for a new placement where she can truly thrive due to her specific environmental needs. Zelda is an incredibly affectionate and goofy dog who absolutely loves human company. She is great with both adults and older children, and she will constantly make you laugh with her silly personality. She is also highly intelligent and eager to learn; if you enjoy training, Zelda will amaze you with how quickly she picks up new cues. Her Favorite Activities: Snuggling: She is a true cuddle bug who absolutely loves curling up and snuggling with her humans. Outdoor Adventures: She is a fantastic travel partner who loves car rides. In quiet, trigger-free areas, she thoroughly enjoys hiking in the woods and mountains, exploring her surroundings, and going for a swim! Playtime: Nothing makes her happier than chasing and playing with her favorite tennis balls. Home Manners & Health: House-Trained: Zelda is fully house-trained and behaves very well when left home alone for a few hours. Health Status: She is fully vetted, healthy, up-to-date on all vaccinations, and receives monthly Symparica Trio preventative care. Her Quirky Habit: Zelda is a skilled "counter-surfer." If food is left unattended on the kitchen counter, she will happily help herself. A household that keeps a tidy kitchen will easily manage this quirk. Ideal Home & Special Needs: Because Zelda becomes highly reactive when she sees other dogs or animals, she must be the only pet in the household. She needs an experienced, confident owner who can guide her through these reactive moments on leash. Due to her activity level and her need for a safe space to play without encountering other animals, a home with a securely fenced yard in a quiet neighborhood is ideal for Zelda. Zelda at a Glance: Breed: German Shepherd mix Age & Weight: Estimated 4 years old, approx. 54 lbs Health: Healthy, fully vaccinated, on monthly Symparica Trio Personality: Very sweet, goofy, affectionate, a true cuddle bug, and loves tennis balls People Skills: Excellent with adults and older children Animal Compatibility: Must be the only pet (highly reactive to dogs and other animals) On the Go: Loves car rides, swimming, and hiking in the woods/mountains (in quiet areas) Home Manners: Fully house-trained, can stay home alone, but will steal food from counters Zelda has so much love to give and will reward the right owner with endless devotion and warm cuddles. If you have a peaceful, pet-free home with a fenced yard and the experience to help her navigate her reactivity, Zelda is your perfect match. Story
-ESTIMATE WEIGHT FULL GROWN: 70lbs -ESTIMATED AGE: 3 years -KNOWN WITH DOGS: Lilly previously lived with dogs but we are still learning more about her dog social skills. -KNOWN WITH CATS: Lilly is said to have high prey drive so prefer a home with no cats or small animals. -KNOWN WITH KIDS: Lilly was in a previous foster home with teenagers and did well. -KNOWN CUES: Unknown -KNOWN HOUSEBREAKING AND/OR CRATING: Lilly is crate trained and housebroken. -KNOWN LIKES: Playing with toys, the hose and cuddling with her people. -KNOWN DISLIKES: ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: Meet Lilly – A Mother Who Deserves Her Happily Ever After If there were ever a dog who deserved a soft place to land, it's Lilly. This beautiful shepherd has been through more in her few years than any dog should ever have to endure. Before coming into rescue, much of Lilly's life revolved around raising puppies. By the time she arrived at Homeward Trails, she had already welcomed three litters into the world. Her most recent puppies were surrendered alongside her when they were only a week old. For much of her life, Lilly was valued for what she could provide to others. Now, it's finally her turn. One of the brightest parts of her previous ringworm recovery has been her friendship with another young shelter dog, Simon, who was also being treated for ringworm. During their recovery the formed the sweetest friendship. They spent their days playing, wrestling, exploring, and reminding each other how much fun it is to simply be dogs. Watching Lilly let loose and play has been incredibly rewarding after everything she's been through. While Lilly and Simon absolutely adore each other, they're not a bonded pair. They're simply two shelter friends who have made each other's recovery a little brighter. Lilly has a wonderful balance of playful energy and gentle affection. She loves spending time with her people just as much as she enjoys romping around with her canine friends. Once playtime is over, she's more than happy to settle in for pets, soak up attention, and enjoy the simple comforts she's gone without for far too long. After years of putting everyone else first, Lilly deserves a family that will finally put her first. One that will show her what it means to be cherished not because of what she can give, but simply because of who she is. Lilly has spent enough of her life being a mother to everyone else. Now it's her turn to be someone's beloved companion. Could you be the one to give this incredible girl the forever home she's been waiting for? We will connect you to her foster! LOCATION: Trails Home Farm in Delaplane, VA ADOPTION COORDINATOR: Trails Home Farm Staff ADOPTION FEE: ADOPTION FEE: WAIVED! I'M PART OF THE REWARDS PROGRAM AND MY ADOPTION FEE IS WAIVED. WE WILL ALSO PAY MY FOSTER OR ADOPTER $500. HT has a number of dogs that need very special homes. These dogs have been failed by humans along the way, leaving them homeless and with issues from their treatment. We'll be honest. Some of them are real jerks. But not always. And not to everyone. Not everyone can be charming ALL the time, right? Others are just fearful and don't like other animals because they have had a bad interaction at some point. Some of them love other dogs but are just plain scared of everything. But all of them are good on the inside. And we believe that ALL of them deserve a chance at life and love. And we're looking to find the right human out there to make that happen. But competition is tough. And they're up against small, well-behaved doggies...so we are offering incentives for special humans willing to give these pooches a chance. WE WANT YOU! ***We are paying $500 to any approved foster or adopter of our REWARDS dogs.*** The human will also get ongoing training support, all supplies covered and a $25 Amazon gift card each month for 6 months. You will learn and grow. You will be doing a world of good for a dog who has really had it rough in life. ------ HT ADOPTION INCLUSIONS: -Spay/Neuter -First 3 distemper series vaccines and dewormings -Rabies vaccine* age appropriate at time of adoption -Microchip - lifetime with no registration fees -Current on heartworm preventative -Current on flea/tick preventative ---- EXCLUSIVE HTAR ADOPTER BENEFITS: -$15 off your first chewy order of $49.00 or more -Exclusive pet insurance offers - $250 coverage at any VCA Hospital in the country -COMPLIMENTARY FIRST EXAMS at 10 DC-Area veterinarians - Free year-round dog training - KEEP YOUR PET SAFE: Homeward Trails is proud to offer PetLink GPS trackers that will allow you to know where your pet is in real time.**Exclusive for HT Adopters (does not include subscription plan): $50 Check it out here: https://landing.petlink.net/gps-dog-tracker -A portion of EVERY ADOPTION FEE supports spay/neuter efforts in under resourced communities -Free doggy day care offers -EXCLUSIVE DISCOUNTS for Homeward Trails events and merchandise -Win a $50 Amazon gift card

Story
-ESTIMATE WEIGHT FULL GROWN: 80-100 lbs -ESTIMATED AGE: DOB: 2/6/26 -KNOWN WITH DOGS: Excellent. Kobe adores other dogs of all ages and sizes and loves to play. -KNOWN WITH CATS: Yes. Kobe is curious about cats and would love to play with them. He is doing very well learning to read and respect the resident cat’s boundaries. -KNOWN WITH KIDS: Excellent. Kobe loves kids of all ages and has lived happily with children. -KNOWN CUES: Kobe is smart, treat-motivated, and learning quickly. He is currently working on basic manners, leash skills, and settling. Like any six-month-old puppy, continued training will be important—especially since he’s going to be a big boy! -KNOWN HOUSEBREAKING AND/OR CRATING: Kobe is mostly housebroken, although he still has an occasional puppy accident. He does great in his crate and sleeps comfortably in it overnight. During the day, he may complain for a minute if he can hear people elsewhere in the house, but he settles quickly. -KNOWN LIKES: Cuddles, other dogs, people, kids, walks, sniffing, playing, treats, and being wherever his humans are. -KNOWN DISLIKES: Nothing significant identified. He can initially be a little cautious with unfamiliar people but warms up quickly. ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: Kobe (formerly Baldur) came into foster care with his mama, Bindi, and littermates when he was just a couple of days old. He was adopted as a puppy and recently returned to our care through no fault of his own. Now six months old and nearly 60 pounds, he’s grown from the fluffy little puppy we knew into one very big, very lovable goofball. His DNA shows he is primarily Rottweiler and American Foxhound, and he will be a large dog when fully grown. Notes from the foster: Kobe is a big, lovable goofball who is still very much a six-month-old puppy and has absolutely no idea how big he is! At nearly 60 pounds (and still growing), he’s playful, curious, smart, affectionate, and an absolute cuddle bug. He loves people, is wonderful with kids, and adores other dogs of all ages and sizes. He’s curious about the resident cat and would really like him to be a playmate, but he’s doing well learning to respect boundaries. Kobe can be a little cautious when first meeting someone new, but he warms up quickly. Kobe is mostly housebroken and sleeps beautifully in his crate at night. He may protest briefly if crated during the day while he can still hear his people, but settles down. He loves walks, sniffing, playing, toys, treats, and being wherever his humans are. He can also be a little mouthy when excited or playing—typical puppy behavior that we’re working on redirecting to toys. Kobe is a very big puppy with an equally big heart. He’ll do best with a family ready to continue his training, give him plenty of opportunities to play and explore, and appreciate the occasional reminder that nearly 60 pounds is probably too big to be a lap dog. Kobe, however, strongly disagrees. ❤️ If you are interested in adopting this dog, please fill out our dog adoption questionnaire and e-mail any questions to: Anne at annehtar@gmail.com PLEASE VISIT THIS WEBSITE TO FIND THE ADOPTION QUESTIONNAIRE: http://www.homewardtrails.org/adopt-a-pet/adoption-forms/ HOW TO MEET THIS ANIMAL: Fill out the application and we will follow up with you!
