If you know German Shepherds, you know they are a special breed. Due to their high intelligence levels, they require a family who knows how to fulfill their needs and understand their thought processes.   Chex is a one-year-old German Shepherd mix weighing approximately 60 pounds. This handsome boy has German Shepherd smarts. He knows to ring the bells hanging on the door to let his people know he needs to go out to do his business. He rests quietly in his crate at night, but he also enjoys sleeping on the couch or the floor. Chex has learned several commands, such as sit, stay, lay, down and even please. He is working on his leash manners, and as a strong boy, he will need help controlling his strength while on a leash.   Chex’s favorite toys are the squeaky types! He views his toys as a challenge and loves to see how quickly he can tear them apart. Yep, sturdy toys are needed for this tough chewer. He has a lot of energy and loves to play with his people. You don’t need to do much if he has zoomies; he will do all the running for you. This athletic guy is ready to learn the agility course and would probably dominate his competition.   Chex adores the kiddos in his foster home. His foster mom told us that he adjusts his play intensity according to the child’s size and age. The kids in the home are all over the age of 10, and it would be best if his forever home is aware he is very protective of “his” kids. We believe Chex felt the need to protect himself and the women and children in his prior home. He is looking for a home where he is allowed to trust on his terms. Valorie is barely a year old, but she’s been through so much. There’s a reason we spell her name the way we do: She has displayed a lot of valor. We are bound and determined to turn Valorie’s life around so she can experience the love of people and know that she is safe and cared for, furever. Valorie came to us with not one but two broken legs. She is now healed from her second surgery, and the vets think she’ll be able to run, play and jump like a regular dog with no lasting physical effects. However, because the injuries happened at the hands of humans, she still bears some emotional scars. Here are some things that bring her joy: 🐕🐩🐕 Other dogs! She loves them so purely and trusts them completely 💦💧💦 Water. She plays in the creek at her foster’s house and has a blast, and she doesn’t mind the rain or storms at all. 🌤🌷🌳 Being outside. She wants to go, go, go, whether she’s in the yard or on a leash walk. 🚗 Car rides 🌭🍔🍦Food and treats – the way to Valorie’s heart is through yummy eats 🤸‍♀️ 🐾 😴 Her energy level will match your energy – from adventure time to lazy time She knows sit, down, come, kisses & kennel and is learning more basic commands. Walks are exciting, & she pulls a little at first, then settles into a nice pace with you. She is house-trained and bell-trained, & she sleeps in her crate at night. Valorie is very gentle with kids who are respectful to dogs and who know that she will need space at first. Then, she will love and protect them hard. So kids are fine but cats are a 'no' for this girl. She is bashful because of her past and may startle at sudden noises and movements, especially at first. She will need some time – likely days or even weeks – to acclimate to her new home, before many new people or visitors start showing up.
