HI - I'M FREYA! I'm a sweet and gentle 2-year-old Belgian Malinois mix in need of a foster or forever home. I was rescued from a crowded California shelter in the nick of time. While there, I was kenneled with another dog, and was calm and gentle. I love playing with other dogs, and I also tested great with cats! (We have videos!) Spirit is a roughly 9-month-old Malinois mix with a sensitive heart and so much potential. He came to us feeling scared and overwhelmed, but with time, patience, and gentle guidance, we’re already seeing encouraging changes in him every day.Spirit can be nervous around new things and is especially unsure around most men, but he has shown a clear preference for women and has formed a sweet bond with one of our female teenage volunteers. Even with his fears, Spirit is trying—and that effort speaks volumes about the kind of dog he is.In the short time he’s been here, Spirit has already made progress with his anxieties, showing that he wants to learn and trust. He is potty trained and knows some basic commands, which tells us someone loved him and invested in him before he arrived.Spirit will thrive in a patient, understanding home that allows his nervous system the time it needs to settle and feel safe. With consistency, kindness, and love, this sweet boy has all the tools to grow into an incredibly loyal and devoted companion. Hi there! My name is Birdie! I am an 8 month old female Belgian Malinois/Shepherd mix at the Santa Barbara Campus, eager for a new home! Birdie is a stunning Malinois puppy bursting with energy, intelligence, and lots of love! This smart girl is happiest when she has a job to and would thrive in a home with an active family or individual who enjoys outdoor adventures, hiking, running, agility, or obedience. Birdie would do best with an experienced dog owner who understands the needs of a high energy working breed and provide daily physical and mental enrichment for her to stay happy. And though she loves all her friends she's met here, feline friends are not welcome in her world. She's silly, she's goofy, and if she could, she would live in your skin. Birdie loves the connection she gets from engaging with her handlers and would need consistent, positive reinforced training with lots of treats to reward her with! Once you set boundaries and structure with her, you'll have a loyal and spirited companion, always ready to be by your side. Like all SBH animals, when I am adopted I will have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. Adoptions also include a certificate for a complimentary post-adoption veterinary exam from a local clinic and our partners at Hills Science Diet will provide a supply of food for my first few days at home.
