Story
Coco is a young, energetic mix who has shown many positive qualities while in our care. Staff and volunteers consistently describe her as social, affectionate, playful, highly food motivated, and eager to engage with people she knows. She enjoys toys, fetch, training activities, and attention, and has participated appropriately in shelter playgroups with other dogs. However, Coco also comes with a history of behavioral concerns in her previous home that make placement more challenging. Her former owners reported:- fearful and defensive behavior around some people, particularly children and unfamiliar situations, including lunging, barking, snapping- resource guarding behaviors in the home - conflict with another household dog and described Coco as needing slow, careful introductions to new people, animals, and environments. At the shelter, Coco has generally presented as social and manageable with staff, volunteers, and handlers, including during behavioral evaluations and dog introductions. Due to her behavioral history and specific needs, Coco is currently being recommended for rescue placement or a highly experienced adopter or foster capable of providing structure, behavior support, appropriate management, and a predictable adult-oriented environment. She would likely do best in a home without young children or unstable social environments.Adopters: Come in daily 1pm-5:30pm or email Animal.Care@venturacounty.govFosters: Email VCAR.Foster@venturacounty.govRescues: Email VCAR.Rescue@venturacounty.gov

Story
Kingston is about a year and a half and came to us in February as a stray. We`ve gotten to know him in his time here and we see him to be a sweet, high energy boy who is struggling in the shelter environment. Recently he developed a limp, which is likely related to how he launches himself around the kennel, and he has had bloody paws and intermittent diarrhea. When he`s out of the kennel he loves belly rubs, playing with toys (unfortunately not high drive enough for working placement), and getting treats. Kingston was adopted briefly and the adopter noted that he was a rough player and mouthy, but would also sometimes growl at people that he didn`t know. They recommended that he find an active home, and we think that breed experience would be a plus. Kingston has done well with dogs his size but can get overwhelmed by too rough/rowdy play. He`s learning some basic skills and manners with our volunteers and has proven to be eager to learn. We are reaching out for help with Kingston because he is not doing well in our care—despite our efforts of enrichment and exercise, constant confinement is hard for this young guy and we`re worried he will continue to hurt himself. We know that Kingston is going to make someone a great companion—we think he will shine as an adventure partner, possibly dog sports, or just an active home who can better meet his needs than we can. Update 6/19: This dog is under evaluation following descriptions of aggression and bites inflicted in a new adoptive home. Details are being confirmed, but at this time we are urgently seeking a placement with a highly qualified adopter or rescue partner who can safely manage this dog in a home environment. Placement options may change as information is gathered. At thist time, adopters must email animal.care@venturacounty.gov if interested in helping Kingston. Rescues, email vcar.rescue@venturacounty.gov.

Honey is a smart girl who learns new things quickly! They also reported she can be apprehensive with people she doesn`t know (same), which we noticed here at the shelter too... but we`ve seen so much progress from her in this area! Her confidence grows a little more every day, and we believe she`ll continue to blossom with a kind, patient person who will take the time to get to know her. Once you`re in, she likes her treats, toys and she loves getting some butt scratches! She`s met other large dogs appropriately at the shelter.

Story
Meet FLORA a young, vivacious canine we rescued after her puppies were adopted. She is a petite little girl about 40 pounds and just the right size to handle on leash. She has one sky blue eye and one light brown eye. Her personality is a delightful mix of sweetness and energy, and she's as friendly as they come. Independent yet loyal, FLORA enjoys a good play session but also loves to snuggle up and be petted and praised. She's smart and curious, always ready to explore new things. Also very gentle with her fellow dogs and enjoys their company. A true water lover, Flora would make a perfect beach companion, zooming thru the sand and fetching a ball or toy. She adores the companionship of her human and always tries to please. FLORA has a special loving personality and will be your loyal friend, a playful companion, and a source of unconditional love and joy. This girl deserves a forever home and someone to give her heart to. She is fully vetted, spayed and microchipped. Adoption fee is $275 Please email Alphadogpetrescue@yahoo.com to ask for an adoption application,

Story
Logan is a very sweet 3 year old shepherd mix with a goofy, playful puppy personality. He loves people and wants to be everyone’s friend. Strangers included. Even though he is a big boy, 80 lbs, he would like to climb in your lap and give kisses. He loves to be cuddled and hugged. Logan has very puppy like energy. He loves to play with his toys and gathers all he can around him, large and small. He chews the toys but rarely destroys them. Logan also knows how how to sit, shake and “high five”. He takes treats politely from your hand. He loves to run around, jump over things and roll in the grass. He is really quite a funny and joyful guy! But he also takes corrections of “no” fairly well. He is a quick learner and has been able to learn rules in his foster home very well. Logan does fine with all dogs, large and small. In his former foster home he lived with four small dogs and three large dogs. He was mostly indifferent to them, not wanting necessarily to play with them but he coexisted with them peacefully. He is not reactive to the small dogs barking in his face. He loved going for walks with, Bear, a dog in his former foster home. Logan loves to go for walks and does well on a leash. He is a strong dog so some training to not pull would be helpful. When allowed loose in a protected area, he loves to run and slide into the grass and roll. He loved to play chase with his friend Bear. He is fairly non reactive to other dogs on walks unless they are overly engaging with him. He seems curious but not overly prey driven when seeing cats. Logan had may have had food deprivation in his previous life. He can be protective of his food with other dogs and should be fed separately. He is very intelligent and often stands in front of the space where the treats are kept and in front of the refrigerator. His foster mom fed him extra food and treats to help him realize that he won’t go hungry. And he was really improving. Logan is a talker!! He expresses his opinion about things LOL! When he is unhappy he sounds like a husky in the way he whines loudly. At his foster home he complained when he had to be separated from foster mom or the rest of the pack. He does not have separation anxiety. When foster mom leaves he never tries to follow her out of the front gate. He does well in car rides and enjoys looking out the window. He also seems to enjoy water as he walked in the shower with foster mom for a bath uninvited LOL! Logan’s ideal forever home would have people to love, cuddle, play and walk with. Because he does have so much puppy like energy it would be nice for him to have a yard to run around and play in. Big children would be great! He would love to have another dog to play and walk with. But he would do fine as an only dog too. Logan is young energetic puppy-like dog who would enjoy a home where there is space to roam and play. He would love a person who likes to take him places for hikes and adventures!. If you are looking for a loyal, loving dog, Logan could be your boy!!
