Story
Swipe Right for Adventure: High-Energy Intellect Seeking a Confident Leader ??About Me:Hey there! I’m Scout. I’m a 4-year-old Belgian Malinois, rocking a athletic 50-pound frame, a sharp mind, and a heart completely full of loyalty. If you’re looking for a partner-in-crime who is always alert, incredibly intelligent, and ready for the next big adventure—whether that’s a rugged hike, a long run, or just some high-quality one-on-one time—then I’m your guy.I might take a second to make sure we’re a good match, but once I feel secure and trust you? Expect total devotion. I’ve got a deeply sweet, affectionate side, and I form bonds that are built to last.My Ideal Partner:I’m looking for someone active, confident, and structured. As a true working breed, I thrive on purpose and need plenty of mental and physical stimulation to keep me at my best. If you have experience with high-energy, intelligent breeds, we are already off to a great start. Our First Date:Probably a walk or a hike, where we can work on our teamwork! I can be a bit strong on the leash, so I really need a confident handler who can guide my energy and help me keep building my walking manners. I do great with other dogs my size or larger, so a double-date with a big canine buddy is totally fine by me.Relationship Goals:With the right leadership, patience, and commitment, I promise to shine as the most loyal, loving, and devoted companion you’ve ever had. I’m just looking for that special someone who is ready to have me by their side for life.Think you can handle all this brains and beauty? Let’s connect! Let`s talk about what kind of adventures we could go on together.

Story
Coco is a young, energetic mix who has shown many positive qualities while in our care. Staff and volunteers consistently describe her as social, affectionate, playful, highly food motivated, and eager to engage with people she knows. She enjoys toys, fetch, training activities, and attention, and has participated appropriately in shelter playgroups with other dogs. However, Coco also comes with a history of behavioral concerns in her previous home that make placement more challenging. Her former owners reported:- fearful and defensive behavior around some people, particularly children and unfamiliar situations, including lunging, barking, snapping- resource guarding behaviors in the home - conflict with another household dog and described Coco as needing slow, careful introductions to new people, animals, and environments. At the shelter, Coco has generally presented as social and manageable with staff, volunteers, and handlers, including during behavioral evaluations and dog introductions. Due to her behavioral history and specific needs, Coco is currently being recommended for rescue placement or a highly experienced adopter or foster capable of providing structure, behavior support, appropriate management, and a predictable adult-oriented environment. She would likely do best in a home without young children or unstable social environments.Adopters: Come in daily 1pm-5:30pm or email Animal.Care@venturacounty.govFosters: Email VCAR.Foster@venturacounty.govRescues: Email VCAR.Rescue@venturacounty.gov

Story
Meet Troy — a spunky young husky who is ready to bring everything you love about the breed into your life.Talkative? Absolutely. Obsessed with water? Yes. Ready to run? Always. If you know and love huskies, Troy is your guy.At his best, Troy is an absolute joy — romping through playgroup with other dogs, charming every person he meets, and filling a home with personality and noise (the good kind). He`s affectionate, fun-loving, and thrives with canine company, though he`s a little selective about his friends. Troy is working on his reactivity to other dogs on leash and behind a fence, so he`ll need an experienced home that understands the breed and can give him the structure and patience to keep making progress. A wrestling buddy at home could be a dream scenario for this guy.Shelter life is starting to wear on him — he`s losing weight and showing stress, which is why he`s been added to our urgent list. Troy deserves so much better than a kennel, and we know the right home is out there for him.
